Hi all,
I’m a veteran of the old prostate forum on patient.info. Glad it is back on-line. This new version will take some getting used to.
OK, here’s my query. Has anyone had any experience with the Optilume procedure for BPH. Thanks!
I am planning on having it done on 12/5/2025
Hi Steve,
Where will you be having it done?
Rich
Dr. Evan Dunn in Lewiston Maine. He does procedures on Fridays and then catheter out Monday morning. So I will stay at a hotel for the weekend. I went to meet with him once to be sure I was a candidate. He did a cystoscopy and transrectal ultrasound. I was super nervous about it and it was way overblown in my mind. He was super quick for both. Then after the cystoscopy and he filled my bladder i peed into a flow meter. Long story short, I have lateral lobes that are enlarged but the median lobe was not. Which made me a candidate. It is this Friday; done in the hospital day surgery center since that is where he is employed.
How large was your prostate? Have your symptoms gone post the optilume procedure?
The actual size of the outside of my prostate was 32; HOWEVER the inside of it was totally squeezing my urethra causing major issues. My flow is great now. I go to the bathroom less often as well day and night. It is not perfect as I am still needing to retrain my bladder and I may have some overactive bladder. The procedure can be done easily up to 80 gram prostate.
Happy to answer any other questions you may have.
How was the recovery? Did you have much bleeding? How long did you have to take off from normal activities?
