Oral thrush since age of eleven, such slow progress in getting rid of it.

Hi, I’ve had a white coating on my tongue since the age of eleven (I remember seeing it and people commenting on it). Always assumed it was natural, went to the doctor a year ago and she said it wasn’t thrush. However, a different doctor spotted it by coincidence a couple of weeks ago and said it looks like thrush. He gave me a prescription for something called Nystan, a yellow liquid in a small container.

I was taking this three or four times a day, without eating directly before or after. It took AGES to make any difference; I could see that it was making a difference, but it was really slow; a strip of white was slowly being eroded across the centre of the tongue. Online it says it should be gone after a week. I ran out after just over a week, and booking a doctor’s appointment is difficult at my GP so I couldn’t make one to get more Nystan or tell them about the slow progress.

Since then, the entire tongue is now coated in white again, not as thick as before, but it’s actually worse than before I started the Nystan. Why is it taking so long to get rid of, and is there anything OTC that’s better for getting rid of it?

Many thanks.

well don’t all rush out to answer at once.
