ORIF ankle surgery

Hi. On 1-8-18 I had ORIF surgery to repair A displaced fracture of my Fibula. During surgery the surgeon ended up putting in a plate with 6 screws. A 7th screw had to be put in to hold the fibula and Tibia together. My post op is next week. Currently I have a lot of nerve pain (tingling, pricking) going on and it hurts! I have read so many different things about NWB time lengths, recovery. What has anyone currently experienced? Thanks!!

Hi Michele,

I had ORIF surgery on 29/11 and was non-weight bearing for 5 weeks (2 weeks in a cast and 3 weeks in a boot). I was allowed to partial weight bear in the boot after this but still have to wear the boot for 6 weeks...just over 3 weeks to go!

The tingling will go away but comes back again when you put weight on it. It's just your leg starting to recover so unless it's causing you a lot of pain then don't worry.

All the best with your recovery smile

Hi

I broke my fibula and dislocated my tibia on November 25th. I have a long plate with 8 screws in. I was in plaster for 8 weeks and have just been given n aircast boot to wear for another 6 weeks. I am still nwb although can put my foot down in the boot. Since i had my cast off last Wednesday, my ankle has been very sore with a stinging pain. Apparently this is all very normal. I have been told i cant drive until mid March and cannot put any weight on my bare ankle until the end of February at the earliest. These things seem to vary greatly between patient and hospital so just be patient and do what the surgeon says. I tried to rush things and ended up doing too much and in a lot of pain!

Good luck.

Hi Vicky. I had 14 stitches removed today and was told 6 more weeks of non weight bearing. Yikes.
