Orlistat

just started orlistat the nurse i seen said to only have 5grams of fat per day im finding it really hard to find a meal for a full week i have lived of rice and peppers surely she got to be wrong

The manufacturers recommend 25-30g of fat a day for women, with no more than 15g in any meal. They say anything much less means:

* your body will go into starvation mode and weight loss will get hard after the first month or so

* your health (shows up first with skin and hair) will suffer if you cut too much fat as many vitamins need a sensible amount of fat present so they can absorbed

* Orlistat only works by elininating fat so can't do much to help weight loss - although it is worth taking it for the \"diet-policeman\" effect anyway.

Just read your posts and think I know where I`ve been going wrong! Been cutting out too much fat! started off ok but no weight loss for last few weeks and have kept cutting the fat back thinking that was the problem. will try eating the proper amount and see how it goes.

thanks

5g No

you need 20g to metabolise fat soluble vitamins. If you are on orlistat that means you need 30g per day because 10g will be 'lost' by the pills.
