I've just come back from the gp and have been prescribed this. All I can find is horror stories of people having accidents. Is it really that bad? I don't think I want to take it! 😢

Please let me put your mind at ease, this is my second week on Oristat and I have not had one accident or one near miss, I was exactly the same as you after reading the horror stories from other people, the only reason theses people are having these horrendous symptoms and accidents is because they are still eating high fat meals or food. If you stick to a low fat meal or snack which you are supposed to you will not have these symptoms. First couple of days I had a bit of tummy pain but I was so conscious about everything I ate and logged everything on my fitness pal so I knew I was doing in right. At the weekend I went slightly over the fat and the next morning I went to toilet and a little oil came out in the loo, nothing else" I have a problem with my thyroid and could not lose weight, but I'm losing weight already which everyone has noticed already. I'm am so determined I want to lose weight and so determined to not sh*t myself that I'm doing what your supposed to. It's not a miracle drug you still have to work on it but its a miracle drug for me. Good luck. We'll have to keep each other posted on our progress.
Hi please don't be afraid of taking Orlistat as they work if they are used correctly.
There are do's and don'ts but its all common sense at the end of the day.
The fat rule you must stick to otherwise you will get side effects. Food should have no more than 5g per 100g and eat no more than 15g per meal so 45g per day. Take a pill after each meal that contains fat.
Eat a low fat healthy diet, eat plenty of fruit & veg, drink lots of water and exercise.
If you go out for a meal and you know that you are going to eat more fat plus you cannot be sure how much is in the food then don't take a pill with that meal.
I have been on Orlistat three times over the past few years and I have good results each time.
They are not a miracle cure and you have to work hard.
Stay clear of crisps, biscuits, cakes, cheese etc etc or you will have a oily accident! You can have a treat now & then (I have wine on a saturday!) but of course in moderation.
I have lost 26lbs in 5 months so far and my weight loss is slow as I have a underactive thyroid so weight loss is difficult for me hence being prescribed Orlistat. I have lost 3 stone the last two times. We are all different and lose weight at different rates.
The first month can make you feel bloated and constipated but that does pass and for me the first month is slow on weight loss then kicks in on the second month I also got quite a few headaches at first too.
Stick with it eat healthy and good luck

Hi Jenni, you're not a pain at all, I'm usually having shreedies and skimmed milk for breakfast or a ham and scrambled egg white bagel. Lunch is a chicken or tuna salad or sandwhich and Twiglets then dinner is meat, potatoes and veg, don't feel deprived at all, check that items are less than 5g fat or less than 15g for a meal and you'll be totally fine
