Rhus Tox homeopathic tablets and cream also Capsaicin cream
Glucosamine sulphate, capsules NOT tablets. 1000 mg morning and night with your meal. Long term support for cartilage.
Avoid NSAIDS including aspirin for arthrits pain relief. Use sparingly for painkiller for headache or other issues. NSAIDs interfere with cartilage regeneration.
Maintain range of motion as much as possible. If you have OA in spine get exercises from physiotherapist to strengthen muscles which support the spine.
I've followed this protocol for decades and have seen little progression of OA over the years, since diagnosed over thirty years ago. Need no medication for it.
All the best!
Just to clarify, all NSAIDs should be used sparingly, including aspirin.
Thank you Derek. I will look into your recommendation. 👍
Hi Anhaga. Thank you for your recommendations. Is their a reason you use Glucosamine capsules instead of tablets. I’ve just started on the tablet version. I have also just started specific exercises after seeing the physiotherapist on Friday. I keep active as much as possible through yoga and step aerobics but to be honest I don’t feel I’m benefiting from it.
Glucosamine sulphate gave us both heartburn.
Agree about restricting anti inflamm meds - they dont help with OA. Capsaicin cream no longer available in the UK unfortunately, I bought some in the USA and brought it home with me but cant find a source for it OTC here, maybe doctor will prescribe it. Would recommend ginger - fresh not powdered or stem ginger. Mince it up and either steep it in boiling water and drink like tea (you can add lemon and honey if you want) or mix it with hand cream or body lotion and rub into the joint, cover and leave on for a few hours before washing off - works wonders for my thumb joints. I tried curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) but the good stuff was very expensive and I really didnt notice any difference to be honest so I stopped buying it. I also gave up on glucosamine with chondroitin as again its expensive to buy the high dosage capsules and negligible effect for me personally. I've just been recommended to try bromelain (an enzyme in pineapple) which apparently is a good anti inflammatory - not started it yet so cant comment until i've tried it.
I have been using rose hip capsules for years now. I first noticed them for sale at a horse show and then they were only for horses. A few years later they were available for dogs and then later on again they introduced them for humans. I started with 6 a day for a month and then down to 3 a day for the last 4 to 5 years. I do notice an increase in pain if I forget to take them for more than 3 days so believe they work for me. I also take bio turmeric. (1 a day). So far with these capsules and exercise I am leading a pretty full life with 3 days a week at the gym and 2 days a week with a personal trainer. I have arthritis in my neck, back, thumbs and ankles and I am 69.
Cheers
Kate
Hi loxie,
Thank you very much for your input. I will definitely look into it 👍
Hi Kate,
Many thanks for your advice. I have lots to consider now 👍
Two reasons. i find the tablets hard to swall, they are large with slightly rough edges so impossible to swallow (and I do not usually have trouble swallowing pills). And there have been a couple of people who have stopped taking glucosamine because they found they got indigestion or stomach pain. And I remembered that the tablets did seem harder to digest once I got them down. Never any trouble with capsules.
Hi
I use GNC Womens joint health package but I am sure they have it for males. It has a multi vitamin and fish oil and gluesomine and chondroitin. I have felt better since taking them a month ago. I exercise daily and work core strengthening. Very important
Hey Martin, I echo everyone else seti, ents. Don’t take painkillers they just cause poor problems. I take massive doses of supplements every day. Vitamin B12, D3, C (1 gram) and also magnesium chelate, MSM, ginger, garlic, cumin roots and also use a Chinese Linament oil. I often mix the garlic, ginger, linament cumin into to very hot water and massage in. I then soak into cotton balls and wrap joint...leave overnight.
I also take probiotics as an added boast to my immune system, though my sitatuion is different in so much as that I have inflammation that I am trying to reduce.
Yes to as as much exercise as you can muster. I also have cupping massages regularly.
Seriously have ave very little pain now...sure my wrist by end of day, if I have been doing strenuous activities, can be sore but after soaking it is vastly reduced.
Have not not had a painkiller now for over three weeks after five months of sbdulute bedridden pain. On the pend. Oh and I would try seeing a gp that practices naturopathy
good luck
kes
Thank you for your recommendations Teresa 👍
Hi Anhaga. Ok thanks. I will take that into account.
Hi Kerrie,
Thank you very much for the advice. It’s great your not in much pain now 👍
My GP has prescribed me capsaicin cream
In the early days I did take Glucosamine but didn't find any benefit. I have used Capsicum cream and also voltarol. As my OE progressed to bone on bone I found that the only way to get rid of the pain was to get the joint replaced. Its wonderful I am now pain free and no need to take anything and I have some movement back in the joint.
Hi wknight. Are you in the UK?
