Other THP -how soon after first?

Hello again
I have no pain in other hip but 3 years of pain in right hip and had it replaced 11 days ago. The Consultant said my left hip was also in need of replacement. i wanted to get it over quickly and he offered 6 weeks after first. i now feel i dont want to do this so soon after the first and want to get back to sports activities as soon as possible. I’m early 70s. I would be interested in other people’s views. Had very helpful comments from a different earlier query.

There’s no rush in getting a hip replaced that has no pain, and in my estimation, many patients have their troublesome hip replaced and the other that had no pain continues to be pain-free. There’s an over-dependence on imaging at times and lots of research showing that imaging and pain do not quite match up most of the time. I’d focus on your current rehab and recovery, and take your time! You’ll do great!

I had one hip replaced in August of 2017 and the other hip in April of 2018. I’m the same age as you and this has worked out well for me.

really grateful for your reply. It is most helpful. I think this is the best way forward.
thanks

thanks Anne, hope you are back to your normal activities.

Very welcome! Always glad to help!

Thank you, Barbara. Yes, pretty much back to normal. I think my knees need help, but I don’t plan to have knee replacement! Perhaps some PT will help there.

I think 6 weeks after the first hip is too soon. I would leave it 3 months until the internal healing is more advanced

I agree!

thanks, i am deferring until a later date now.

thanks ive decided to defer to a later date.
