I have an appointment at my doctors later today think im having my second outbreak out genital herpes. Im devastated my fiance is so understanding but i feel so dirty and unclean. Are the symptons not as bad the secobd time round i was in so much pain the first time i had them. Thanks in advance for any comments
From what I've read and heard, the first outbreak you have is usually the worst. Its gets milder everytime you have one, so it can only get better from here on.
Recurrences are usually a lot milder. Not always, but usually. Mine have been little more than a single sore spot that I only notice when I wipe. Just curious, but is it not possible that you caught herpes from your fiance? If so, you are no more "dirty" than him!
Dont think i caught it from my fiance we have been together 14 years but he did have shingles when we first met could i have got them from this.
No, you cannot catch herpes from shingles. Same virus family, but a completely different virus. The ability to have herpes for many years until the first outbreak is possible, but nowhere near as common people and some websites make out. Only happens in about 10-20% of cases. The remaining 80-90% who have a first outbreak do so due to new infection, so bear that in mind. Fyi, herpes is not passed every time there's contact. It is thus possible to avoid it for weeks, months, years, or you could be very unlucky and catch it from one first-time encounter. Depends on when the person is shedding the virus and how much is being shed. Shedding can occur in bursts of several hours, at random, on 15-30% of days. It's not all the time. Applies to genital Type 2 and oral Type 1 (source of genital Type 1).
