I am 4 weeks post op from a partial unicompartmental knee replacement (Inner knee). After a couple of PT sessions I am now having outer knee pain on the opposite side of my PKR. What's up with this? Did I tear my meniscus or is this somethings g else? I'm icing it but it doesn't seem to help.
Hi Elaine,
I had PKR 8 months ago on right knee and 5 months ago on left. Both times I had discomfort on the outer side of my knee when the inside was the part replaced. I asked my doctor about this and he said this was very common. Lots of cutting and stretching going on! I still feel the soreness in this part of my knees, but much better than the beginning. This forum has made me realize that it will probably be a year before I can count on full relief. Good luck to you and hang it there, it does get better!
Thank you so much. I kept thinking I injured it somehow by favoring the knee or overdoing my PT sessions. Sometimes you just need some reassurance. I appreciate you replying. Good luck to you. 😊
Great info, thanks 😇👍
Elaine, I am exactly where you are, 4 weeks post op for PKR, and I am now having assorted pains everywhere it seems except where the replacement part and incision are--ankle and outer leg, etc.. If your ankle hasn't started yet, don't say you weren't warned! This website is good for demonstrating the wide variation of discomforts that are normal reactions for such assaults on the body as is surgery!
I am just "turning the corner" from the scary type of pain requiring steady pain killers to more general, lower-grade pain/discomfort which is tolerable, and which I guess will continue for some time. For the record, my P.T. said she thinks the pain for the PKR is just as bad as for the TKR but the recovery time is not as long. Hopefully whe is right! I'll be keeping you company...
Thank you, Mary and YES, I am also having ankle pain. I almost feel as though I'm spraining it every time I walk. Thank you for responding. This surgery has me baffled. I'm off pain meds but exhausting my Advil intake.
