Ovarian cyst? Or a bunch of other stuff?

Before I embark on a lengthy process of trying to get an ultrasound and figuring out what to do I thought I'd try you guys on here.

Ten days ago I got crippling 'trapped wind' to the point I had to go to bed. I tried everything and nothing worked. It lasted a few days and so I rang NHS direct. As I'd been taking codeine after a recent sinus op (call the knackers yard!) they suggested it may be related to constipation from that. I sat it out but it took days to calm down and it is now a sort of background pain. It is mainly on my right side but feels like something is jiggling in my tummy when I walk and I keep needing the loo, which seems fine when I go, but it is a bit confusing. I am now two weeks late for my period (def not pregnant,  I've checked twice!) and am blown up like a balloon and just feel rough. Just sort of like I just want to burst it for some relief!

It it feels reminiscent of a recent incident (January maybe) where I went to the GP with a constant dull pain in my lower right abdomen and they thought it might be appendicitis. They decided it wasn't my appendix and was probably ovulation pain. This time it feels the same but incorporates another mystery I have been complaining to the doc about for years. This is a sharp pain just below my ribs on the right that started years ago when my bf leant his head on my tummy. I figured it was a detached rib but slowly gave up trying to figure it out and lived with it. I've also had numerous tests for various IBS type things, thyroid, allergies etc. as I seem to be consistently fatigued and feeling a bit 'bleugh'. I also had a bit of bother with a Mirena coil last year (seemed to be bumping against something) and have always been irregular but seems to be an increasing tendency toward major bloating and relief coming around my period. It's all been a bit lost in the background nose of a sinus problem and an anxiety issue.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone who has had ovarian cysts? Either if they have popped or come and gone or just hung around for a while? Or is it just a set of unfortunate circumstances? Any tips on what to say to the. GP to get them to start along that track rather than assuming trapped wind/IBS etc.?

Cheers!

Hello! I would encourage you to  go in & ask for an ultrasound. That will give them better insight to your condition. Physician's often do some "guessing" for a while when you first present in the office.  That can waste precious time & keep you in discomfort!

For the past 7 months I've had some similar symptoms to yours & I could easily "explain away" or "justify" why I felt this or that.  I finally went in after consulting with a friend of mine who is a medical professional & she encouraged me to go in & ask for the ultrasound.

Well, I had a HUGE fibroid growing... Initially they thought it was a cyst (it wasn't detectable at my last check yearly up just 7 months prior, so it grew fast!)  & had a bit of a scare as they all suspected it was ovarian cancer. OC caused a lot of digestive issues!

Please keep in mind that it WAS NOT cancerous, however, I learned that I needed to be more assertive with my health & health care. I would encourage you to do so as well!  Do what you must to get it diagnosed specifically.

I am now 8 weeks post surgery & doing well. From here on out I will always encourage women to go in & MAKE your Dr do something. If they don't or won't then you need to CHANGE DOCTORS!  Your health & wellness is worth the assertiveness! It is aweful to feel like you're in the dark, with no peace of mind because of the possibility you could have something going wrong inside.

Hope you are diagnosed quickly & feeling better soon!

Sounds like a cyst. Ask to be referred for scan. Of not there are places you can pay for

Transvaginal ultrasound. I payed 60 for mine, worth every penny as I did have

A cyst. If you find a company that

Just does the imaging much cheaper than a private hospital, which

Can be more than

Double the price xx

Oh gosh!!

You have been through alot!!

I would get an ultra sound done ASAP!

It sounds like there could be firoids or cysts possibly.

I have has an ovarian cyst and to me that sounds like you might have one. You display the same symptoms that I had. Get back to your doctor and say you want an ultra sound scan done please. It will show up on there if there is one. It whatever else is going on. I remember when I had my cyst it kept making me go to the toilet aswell. Get yourself checked without delay good luck 😊

Hi,

The symptoms that you are describing are very similar to mine.  I was in so much agony that I went to A&E and was then referred on for a pelvic scan.  They found a 4cms functional cyst on the left ovary in May and I will be going for a repeat scan at the end of July. I'm on constant medication to reduce the intensity of the pain.  I'm also booked for a hysteroscopy d&c in August.

I would ask to be referred for a scan and I would also stress to the doctor that you can't carry on in pain.

Best of luck.
