ovarian cyst pain

I had a scan on my right overy before christmas and was told I had a cyst but it was only 3cm. My gp has told me that cysts are common and so should't cause me any pain. I also had a blood test which showed that I was mildly anemic so the next thing I know my lower right hand abdominal pain

is being investigated as a bowel problem and I am waiting to have a colonoscopy. I had a cyst removed from my right overy 15 years ago and the pain is like a period pain, stabbing pain and I have a burning in my groin area. I also suffer from excess wind and back pain. I have now taken matters into my own hands and am not prepared to wait until my gyn appointment in March and have asked for a referrel to a private hospital for a follow up scan before I have to have this awful procedure. Has anyone else experienced these symptons because I was ok about having a cyst but now I am extremely anxious it could be something else.

hi there

Put it this way., I have a 3 x 3 x 2 area on my ovary that is causing me terrible pain. i have had much larger cysts that have never caused this much pain or problems with bleeding - and feeling totall exhausted. i go back next week to arrange a date for keyhole.

last year i had a lot of pain and had a lap - where consultant found lots of vascular adhesions inside and did a clean up job. my remaining ovary was stuck to my bowel.

it could be that your cyst IS causing the problem., or scar tissue - & its doubtful a colonoscopy is going to show these up. only a lap will do that. have your colonoscopy - and if nothing is conclusive - go back and insist on a laparoscopy - they can then have a good look inside and see whats going on.

of course you are going to worry about this - pain is an indicator that all isnt well.

go and get sorted as quiickly as you can - it will put your mind at rest.

Hi

Thank you so much for your response - I don't always think doctors know best and I do believe to a certain extent you know your own body.

I have an appointment with a specialist to discuss a colonoscopy next wednesday then another scan on my overy on friday.

I feel it's going to be a fight to get a lap because they are insisting that my cyst looks normal and because they have found me to be borderline anemic

they have booked me in as an urgent patient for the colonoscopy much to my surprise and horror.

Will have to wait and see what next week brings and keep popping the pain killers and yes I think mine is affecting my bowel to a certain extent

Thanks again now I don't feel so alone with this.

Tracey

Sorry among my rambling I omitted to say good luck next week and I would be interested to know how you got on.
