Hi, I've just joined after finding out that I have a 5cm cyst on my left ovary. I'm 44 years old and had the right ovary removed at age 26 due to endometriosis. Have had no problems until about two years ago when my periods became irregular. After being fobbed off by my go on two occasions I tried again in September and saw a lady gp who took swabs, hormone tests and a CA125. This came back slightly raised but I don't know by how much and after waiting 6 weeks I went for an ultrasound which is when the cyst was found. The results were sent to my gp who said that it looked like a fluid filled cyst but just to be safe I would need an mri. Less than a week after visiting my gp I have an appointment but it is to see a gynaecologist only. I really don't know whether that is good or bad and there was no mention in the letter of an mri. Was just wondering if anyone had been in this situation and can shed any light?
Hi bluebirdy,
i had a MRI scan form my cyst, I would wait and speak to your gyne when you see them. Each cyst case is so different that the only person who will be able to advise properly will be your gyne. That said, don't ignore any symptoms or pain you might get, get in touch with your go or out of hours if you're worried
Take care,
Katie
Hi Bluebirdy,
I had an ovarian cyst so my gynaecologist recommended I have an hysterectomy as I had been through the menopause at 49. I also had an ovary removed 23 years ago because of a large cyst and my CA125 was higher than it should have been but everything turned out ok as the cyst which was 10 cm was benign. I had problems with irregular bleeding after the menopause so my doctor arranged for me to have ultrasound scans and to see the gynacologist in his clinic after the scans and he told me I had a 4.7cm cyst. He did a womb biopsy and blood tests and then booked me in for an MRI scan which followed a few weeks later. I had to see the consultant again a few weeks later and he told me that the cyst had a small dark area so he recommended a full hysterectomy so that he could test the cyst for cancer although he said he felt sure it was benign but he couldn't be 100% without testing so he booked me in there and then for the operation which was 7 weeks after. Everything went smoothly and I had a letter a couple of weeks later to say the cyst was benign.
The cyst had grown to 10 cm by the time they removed it.
