Ovary problem or hip? Please advise

Hello all of my darling hippies!! I hope you are all well and making progress with your recoveries.

With my first hip replacement I did not have a pain at the front (groin area) just the bone pain. For last few weeks I have had such an intense pain in my 'ovary' area...has this happened to you? For the ladies on the forum it feels to be exactly where my ovaries are and is a pain like appendicitis (I have had my appendix removed) not sure whether I need an ultrasound or whether this is most likely my other hip causing pain (which is strangely less worrying for me)

I am in a lot of bone pain, so am used to this, but not the ovary area hurting like hell.

Any advice would be great - thanks all

Hi Rose, I had a LTHR a little over 5 weeks ago and I had the same painful sensation to my left ovary for about the first two weeks I would say. It felt like my cycle was starting to come on but to my surprise it never did...the pain did resolve itself after about the second week post op...hope this helps

Yes that is just how it feels. It feels really sore. You have put my mind at rest. I hope your recovery is going well?

Couid just be your muscles healing or they have become too tight across the pelvic area. I sometimes get a lumpy feeling there which is painful and massage it and it goes off, Hope your pain reolves soon Rose.

Hi there Rose,

I remember  you from when I was on here in my early days!

So sorry you are experiencing pain, but remember that your body has taken a battering in the operation, not just the leg, but the lower half of the body too.

If it does not clear up quickly or if in doubt, get and see a doctor / surgeon just to be safe.

Best wishes

Sorry I don't think I explained myself very well. The pain is in the left hip which is still so far not replaced. I have pain in the bone as before, but do not have this awful pain in the ovary....wondered if anyone else had that before their hip replacement? It hurts all the time.

Hi Rocket!

How are you?? And your lovely wife? It is nice to hear from you and see you are still on here on and off. It is hard to find the time so much these days without all those 'restful' days recovering?!

How is your hip? Does it seem okay?

Hoping it is all good for you.

My left hip has really started to be a pain, so may need another THP! Something to look forward to

Rose,

We're well, my wonky hip joint is now checked regularly by RNOH Stanmore but has not moved at all.

I normally come on here about once or twice a week now I am retired.

Restful ..... hmmmmm ..... I have just ordered over £1000 of railway sleepers to repair a raised pond / waterfall, and some more bits to repair my workshop roof, so those are my projects for this summer. That is going to be lots of heavy work digging out, then cutting and fixing the sleepers, and finally filling in and rebuilding the waterfall and pond.

I'm more active than I have been in years now, with a new bike - I got a ladies one to same me dislocating trying to get onto a men's bike.  We go out on our bikes together most days whenever the weather is reasonable, and even had a long 9 - 10 mile ride on roads and rough terrain on Monday. I am now faster than my wife, I put it down to all the physio exercises I have had since my first THR.

I do hope your painful hip gets sorted soon, it's no fun having another hip operation, as you know I can tell a story about that .

Best wishes

I would see a gyn doctor to be sure. What you describe sounds so very much like what I had with an ovary cyst years ago. It was benign, a relatively easy surgery except I decided to have a total hysterectomy at the same time so it did not reappear later in the other ovary. The way the Doc described it is the cyst was like a small balloon but filled with fluid that could be very harmful if it burst. He considered it very urgent for removal, so had it done right away. Now I had hip replacement in May and do have another bad hip still but never had pain in ovary area after surgery or before. I did have  very stabbing pain right in that front hip joint when walking before my hip replacement. It was not however in the ovary area. It was more right where the leg creases to go to the crotch area, right in the joint. Ovary area and that pain was more outward, not in crotch area. I hope that helps. If it does sound like ovary area, please see your gyn. Ovary cysts are dangerous if they burst inside you. There are many more explanations but your description rang a bell of how I would have described my cyst. Hope it is not that, but better safe than sorry. Good luck

hi graham,

wow ... goodness .. a new bike and going on rides must make you feel wonderful -

hope you won't be overdoing it with your projects ... that is serious business ... the digging and heavy lifting, climbing on a roof ????

keep on going ...

big warm hug

renee

Renee,

Yes, it took a long time to get back to 'normal', but with physio, exercise and perseverance I have made it.

If you remember, I was up on that roof last year just a few months post THR to try to stop the leak, but it's still coming through, so a complete roof replacement is called for.

The wonderful thing I am finding about retirement is that I don't have to complete tasks in the minimum time any more, I can take my time on these ones.

Love and hugs

Graham

Thanks Peggy for your most helpful reply.

I loathe to book a doc app but I will after reading your message. It is a constant pain and really quite bad now - and along with the pretty much constant pain in the hip joint which is yet to be replaced, I wondered if the two might be linked. I am kind of hoping it is just the hip as could do without another health issue, but am very thankful to you for drawing my attention to the possible consequences if I don't go....as you said I didn't have that kind of pain with my right hip before it was replaced either.

Thank you very much, you may just saved a bigger problem from developing.

I am so pleased to read your post Rocket, and really this is why we have the surgery so we can enjoy bike rides and the pleasure of life. At least we are pain free of sorts.

It made me giggle you are beating your wife, I wonder how she feels about that???

I have just been rained on at a polo qualifier for five hours (my daughter is playing not me!) such lovely British summer weather we are having! But feel glad I could be there.

Keep in touch and so happy that you are enjoying your retirement, building a small waterfall doesn't sound easy!!!!

All the best

Rose

Hi Renee

How are you hun? How is your hip now? Did it resolve in the end? I am mindful I may have missed your posts about this....but would like to know how you are now....and if you are enjoying the summer. I am going to Amsterdam in a few weeks, not too far from you, do I need flip flops or umbrellas?

Big hugs

Rose

Rose,

Can I point out, I am not beating my wife , but I am faster than her on the bicycle .

Yes, the raised pond/waterfall is going to be a bit of a challenge, but hopefully I can at least get some help from my sons lifting the railway sleepers.

Hip - still being monitored by my new surgeon, but I am at last comfortable with it, even if it is wonky.

Legal case still pending.

Rose I am the same way about doctor appointments, but when I heard your symptoms I just had concern. I could obviously be wrong and it could be hip related. Does it hurt when you are still, sitting or laying? I think if it is it may be a pretty good sign you need to see your gyn. Especially if it is hurting worse now. I hope it turns out to not be anything that requires surgery. Best of luck.

Peg

dearest Rose,

take both ... the weather has been so weird here - torrential rains, then sunshine, then thunder and more rain ... We get your weather , you see ---

I am doing okay --- a wee bit disappointed that it is taking so long though ... still have challenges and doing a different round of healing right now ---  I don't think I was all that lucky with physical therapists out here ... living alone is not helping either - less motivation to go for walks - make that : long walks ...'

I still volunteer at the senior center and actually signed up for additional days to help out during vacation time ..

Also still in decision making mode what to do next - to move back to the west where it is more crowded but more of a city life or stay here in rural Drenthe ... In the meantime I am here on the forum ...

Don't wait too long sweetheart ---

loving embrace
