We all have Graves Disease or overactive thyroid issues, most of us have been through RAI and are now on thyroxine.
Hi Everyone,
Dave, Barry, Marigold, Jane, Bess, Suzy, Babs, Maria, Debs, Elaine - I have set up a new discussion I hope you all can find me?
Let me know, I really hope that we have not lost each other!

Hi All,
This new layout is taking a little getting used to : )
I had the RAI treatment yesterday and am looking forward to hopefully returning to the land of normality : )
I've come here for a bit of a moan today, I came off the carbimazole and thyroxine last weekend to allow the 7 days free for the RAI, and I have been feeling really quite rough, I had the worst dizziness and nausea so far over the weekend, which ended with me trying to ignore it, going to the gym, then hitting a severe dizzy spell, lying on the floor unable to get up for ages, when I finally did get up i went to the toilet and was very sick, somehow managed to get myself home, then my whole wkend was wiped out by either sleeping, being sick or lying in a heap on the floor, this illness sucks!!
I am mortified about the gym incident and dreading going back next week, I think I will be walking around looking like a beetroot!!
That's my moan over and done with, hopefully the shame will subside : )
take care all x
Hi all,
I had to set up a new account as the old one wont work, hope all the others find there way back lol.
My recent bloods show TSH 7.5 AND ft4 11.8 so looks like i am under active now although my t4 is still just about in range.
Got to see specialist on thursday hope he starts me on thyroxine as starting to feel more tired and colder.
Hope everyone is doing ok take care baz ![]()
Hi everyone. Look for me in the alopecia forum. I've just about pulled all my hair out trying to post. lol I've had to register again and it wouldn't recognise Marigold so I'm now her twin sister Marigold_64. What a performance. Liked it better the way it was before.
Barry, I hope they start you on thyroxine.
Take care everyone.
Marigold.
Hi Marigold & Baz,
Glad you made it over! I hope the others do.
Barry sounds like your underactive, good luck at the hospital.
Hux, what an awful weekend you had, so now you are radioactive! So long as they don't let you go too far underactive then you should be ok. How long are you in isolation for? I had to stay off work for three weeks, which then turned into 5 months as I was left to go very underactive! All good now though.

Hiya
To get your old account working you need to click the 'Forgotten Password' link on the Sign In form and get a new password (then change it back again in the 'Update profile' bit), well it worked for me at least :D
Hi everyone.
Deb & Elaine. Hope everything went ok with your heart monitors, you'll be pleased it's all over with. How did you get on with the endo Barry? Are you on thyroxine now?
Sue, are you ready for your hols.

Hi All,

Hi everyone, sign me up for the hypertension forum, its taken me days to get on here ! I may have missed some posts but hope Deb and Elaine ok with heart monitors. Marigold, still have migraine aura, I hate it. Like you I'm always wearing the dark glasses, so light sensitive, think the neighbours imagine I'm permanently hung over - I wish ! My last blood test was T3 3.71 and T4 13.8 so am pleased with that but again they didn't have my TSH which is the one that has been quite high in the past. Presume its ok. Sorry I cant reply properly, at the moment I cant see previous posts and having finally got on here am reluctant to try ! I'll get the hang of this eventually. Hope Sue ok and gets off on holiday. Hope everyone else ok, will catch up when I have read all the posts, if I ever manage to get on here again.! (Talk about if it aint broke don't fix it !). love, Bess.
Hi Bess. I'm so pleased you've found us. I'm sorry you're still having the migraine aura. My eyes are very sensitive to sunlight at the moment, I think it's maybe because the sun is so low at this time of year. I must look permanently hung over too. lol Your blood test looks ok.
I'm sure we'll all get the hang of this new set up eventually, but I liked it much better before.
I'm like you, I daren't venture very far incase I can't find my way back. We'll have to leave a trail of breadcrumbs. lol.
love,
Marigold
Hi all,
I have been put on 25 mg thyroxine and have go to get my bloods done in 6 weeks.
I am starting the dose on Monday, did anyone experience any side effects once they started taking it ?
I always worry about taking new medication so any feedback would be very helpful.
Take care everyone ;-)
Hi Everyone, I've found you all, what a performance to get my password reset. I'm with the rest of why change things if they work perfectly well in the first place.
I have had a rough few weeks with work, but it will be all over and done with next Thursday and then I will consentrate on getting better.
Take care everyone love Maria
Hi everyone.
Hi Barry. You'll be pleased you've started on thyroxine. I didn't have any side effects. I started on 100, then 75, and I've been on 50 for some time now. I'm feeling fine, a bit tired sometimes but apart from that I'm ok. Take care.
Hi Maria. I'm pleased you've found us, as you say what a performance!
You'll be pleased when Thursday comes, I'm sure you'll start to feel better when you don't have to go to work.
Thinking of everyone.
love,
Marigoldxxxx
Barry you will be fine remember that thyroxine is a replacement
hormone ie it's what your thyroid naturally produced so don't be worried about it. I'm on 100mg and have had no side effects. My Endo said it was like taking a vitamin.
Hi Maria you found us ;-) Thursday will be here in no time and then you can work on getting well.
Have put the diet on hold tonight and we are having a take away mmmm it tasted so good!

Levothyroxine is T4 only and does NOT replace what your natural thyroid puts out. Naturally your thyroid produces T1, T2 ,T3 and a small amount of T4.
It's a replacement as in that's what is offered to most as a treatment for a thyroid that has been destroyed by the RAI process leaving you then hypothyroid.
I was only quoting what I had been told by my Endo.
Levothyroxine is offered to patients who have had RAI as it's the synthetic version of the hormone T4, which is the hormone healthy thyroid glands produce the most of. T4 is converted to T3 in body tissue. Many hypo patients still have some thyroid function of their own, and are producing some T3, and prescribing more T3 could result in too much T3 in some patients. This is information given me by my endo.
