Overactive thyroid

Overactive thyroid levels initially t4 78. Now normal at t4 12 and tsh 3.3. So reduced to 5mg a day.

I feel terrible, tired all time, agitated and miserable! I only reduced them a week ago. Is this normal?

My hair also still falling out loads? How long before it stops falling out, it’s nearky a year since I started treating. Just fed up with constant up and down and mood swings. I know lots of worse conditions but it’s really affecting my mental health I think. I feel like I’m going mad!

Hi Sarah mine was reduced to 5mg and I felt exactly the same. Exhausted, hair loss, anxiety etc. I would suggest you get another blood test in a few weeks time if you aren't feeling any better. They found that I had gone hyper again and put me back on 10mg. It's horrid I know but try and hang on in there you are not going mad it's just the awful thyroid 🙄

I was put on 10 mg of Methimazole at diagnosis and kept on that dose for 2 years because although my Free T3 and T4 normalized immediately in mid range, my TSH did not rise from less than 0.001 in 2 years.  It finally started to rise when I started taking supplements i.e. 3,000 mg of Regular L-Carnitine and 1,000 mg of Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Vitamin D 1,000 IU per day.  When TSH began to rise even a little, Methimazole dose was cut to 5 mg and I found I had a backlash in two weeks.  For me, I need to decrease meds dosage gradually in order to avoid that.  i felt much better after adding the supplements because I was deficient in all of them.  The other thing I have seen on these boards with up and down results is Hashimoto's.  Hashi can initially start with being hyper before it burns itself out and then goes hypo.  Hashi patients are very sensitive to the meds swinging from high to low and back again.   One Hashi patient on this Board did better when she controlled her disease with Regular L-Carnitine instead of the meds but you need to confirm diagnosis by getting all antibodies tested first.
