Overdose

I'e just took 50 sertraline 100mg, should I sleep it off? I've overdosed twice before but nothing major, I'm scared to go to the hospital to be labelled as a danger to myself.

Sorry for the inconveniance

Please call emergency services straight away, they won’t do anything but help you.

You should go to the hospital now.

I totally understand your worries but there are things the hospital and gp can arrange to help in the immediate future. I've had to periodically pick up meds from GP or doc because I didn't trust myself and neither did they. If there is a crisis team at the hospital they can visit you regularly or you can visit them to talk/catch up.

Please don't rely on your body's reaction to previous overdoses as nothing is certain. The hospital will help you and if you can then ask about their crisis team, they have been angels to me and have talked me into going to A&E when I last overdosed.

Go to hospital now. If someone is there with you , let them drive. Better yet call ambulance. They will help you.

Please go to A&E now Hun 🙏

I would think you might want to get to a hospital ASAP

That is a very significant overdose. You absolutely must seek medical help .... please.

It's been a while, I hope you're ok.

Go to hosp theres a good chance u’ll end up with seratonin syndrome at the very least  u will need treated for that im not sure what else that amount of sert will do but i dont think taking 5000mg of it in 1 go u can just sleep it off!  Tbh sert isnt that toxic most people using it to die dont die but u will have some pretty grim effects fever hyperactivity confusion vomiting high bp agitation. So my friendi suggest u stop messing abt with drugs andtake them appropriately and if there not working go an see someone coz life is a gift although u might not think it now i promise with the right help u’ll see it is

Don't be sorry , you have nothing to be sorry about.

Please go to your local a&e unit . I think you should see a doctor as soon as, just to be safe .

Hey sorry all, I've been released and had no wifi, thanks everyone so much

Woohoo! You did well, I hope you're feeling ok right now and they were helpful and understanding, take care : )

well done you !  I am so glad you were able to seek help.  If you need to rant I can listen, but I can't give you medical advice.  I feel sad for you that you felt you needed to take too many tablets. I hope life picks up soon for you. x

I am very relieved to hear that. Try to take good care of yourself x

Another thing, maybe you should speak to a counselor or therapist about life!! Sometimes that helps people! God bless.

Dear Xrated,

We are very sorry to hear that you were in a position where you felt you had no choice but to take an overdose of medication. We are very relieved to hear that you sought help at hospital and have been released.

We very much hope that as a result of going to hospital, you will have been referred for the help you need. However, if you have similar suicidal thoughts in the future then we strongly recommend you speak to someone who may be able to help.

The Samaritans offer a safe space where you can talk openly about what you are going through. They can help you explore your options, understand your problems better, or just be there to listen.

Their contact details are on our patient information leaflet here: https://patient.info/health/dealing-with-suicidal-thoughts, which also offers lots of other advice on how you can access the help you may need.

If you are having such thoughts then please do reach out to the team at the Samaritans (or the other people detailed in our leaflet) who will understand what you're going through and will be able to help.

Kindest regards

Patient
