Overly excited, is it normal?

Hi, this is my 4 th day of being on Citalopram after I finally found the courage to seek help after years of depression. I've had a couple of symptoms

Yawning and then feeling nauseous

Tired all day long

Stomach aches

Diarrhoea

Headaches

Shakiness when consuming caffeine ( never doing that again)

Yesterday I even felt panicky ( and I don't suffer from panic attacks)

Since yesterday I have been feeling tired yet very hyper and excited, I've been jumping, running around the house doing silent screams and shaking my head.

I know that the goal of this medication was to make you happy but the dr said it would take weeks. Is this a side effect?

so you recognize the side effects..if you want to keep taking this demon medication than keep taking it..

I would request a NON-SSRI med.

i took this for 8 years..and only realized recently it was BAD..causing more anxiety...some of the effects..giving me more confidence...less anxious impatience...kept me going on it.

But, in the long run...the anxiety amplified...hence it took 8 years for me to notice.

Continue it...but if you still feel this way...SWITCH

It made me more anxious initially but then it eases off.

Hi I have been on 1/2 dose 10mg for 2 weeks now waiting for it to kick in as I get palpitations an more anxiety than I had but they say it's a side effect an will subside by 3 or 4 week..... I'm seeing a gynae tom about peri menopause will see what she says....

Hi, yes I felt the same. My anxiety was much worse week 2, but I'm on week 3 and already starting to feel more normal.  I know so many people who say this drug has been life changing, I'm hoping the initial side effects are worth it. Hang in there, it's a bumpy ride to a better destination I hope x

Did you have any palpitations?

Yes I did.

Hi ALittleBitCrazy

Yes these are side effects of the meds - it can be tough for a few weeks but they do wear off.  Stick with it, persevere and have lots of patience.  They will really help you as they have done for many of us.  I suffered years of depression and I recovered on these.

Please let me know what gynae says I think I'm in Peri menopause and my anxietys bad hence why I'm now trying citalopram :s

Yep side effects until things normalise I suggest avoiding caffeine until you start adapting to the meds as the serontonin is slowly increasing.

Thankyou it helps to know palpitations just a side effect cause I get nervous when it happens.... other than that all other side effects have gone.....so will stick it out....

I am now 86yrs.I have suffered anxiety for years.Was. Persuaded to start cilitopr am by my daughter.I am a lot better in mornings, but before leaving house I get terrible anxiety, goes to my stomachs etc.sometimes Ii have to cancel. can you help me.Thankyou katecogs

Yes I did and still do

Hi Gynae says I'm in peri meno an has stopped Cilift as I'm getting bad palpitation she's given me natural hormone stuff Primeveplus an MenoCal7 if this doesn't work she'll give me Serdep 50mg a anti depressant used for meno woman then only HRT.....

Thank you so much for the reply how did they work out its peri menopause ? Did they do any tests? Are you in the U.K. ? Thank you

Hi no I'm in South Africa.... told her my symptoms an age 48 she did take blood to test hormones but said 51 is normal menopause age I would definitely be in peri that's why I have so many symptoms an anxiety.... said Serdep 50mg the better pill for anxiety caused by peri meno....but I'm first trying the natural stuff she prescribed l....

I used to get palpitations - then I'd get more palpitations because I was scared of the palpitations

Glad to hear all other side effects have gone.  The palpitations will stop eventually too, and feelings of 'normality' should start creeping in gradually.  Expect 'off' days/weeks at times ... but they'll slowly stop happening.

Hello Sybs

How long have you taken Citalopram now?  Glad to hear you're feeling a lot better in the mornings.  Are you able to go out sometimes?
