Oxicoton

I was given this as a painkiller along with my other pain meds in hospital for hip replacement. Has anyone had them prescribed by gp after they leave hospital. I know some days l could really do with them when the pain in my leg that is still to have hip replacement.

If so what strenth were they prescribed.

I don't just want to phone and ask gp for them if they will not prescibe them or if l don't know the strenth.

I could always call hospital and ask what strenth l was given and how often l had to take them.

Just wondered if anyone have had them prescribed.

The pain is now getting unbearable and tramadol are not helping as much.

Thanks

Laura

Hi Laura

In this day of technology, yor hospital records will be accessable by your GP, so he will be able to look on their internal system and see what you were given.

I also took copies of the report I was given (upon discharge) to hand to my GP. Knowledge is everything :-)

My surgeon suppied the refill prescription...

Yes, my primary care doc filled this for me, actually before my operation. There are different strengths, three I believe, not sure. I would just call and say your pain is not being controlled with Tramadol and you need help.

Hi Laura

my hospital discharges you with all the meds you need for at least 2 weeks. They also give you a letter for your GP. This usually explains what you have had done and what meds you were discharged with. Then just before you run out if you still need a certain med you just go to your doc and ask for more.

I was given Oxycodone (Percocet) 5mg and took them for probably the first 2-4 weeks after THR. I took Vicodin prior to that because I have generalized OA and take them when needed.

It was suggested that I take them before my PT then every 4-6 hours.

I also used ice packs and really with the combination I had no problems.

Now I only take Vicodin when I have extreme pain from all of my other joints.

Good luck to you!
