I am about to have PAE on thursday. I saw that someone posted here that they had erection issues after PAE. I have not seen that in any research I have done over a 2 year period. The Doctor doing my PAE is Dr Bagla. Has anyone heard of this issue after treatment?
Never heard that before I just had mine done in January 2016 it changed my life.
I dont have to think about peeing anymore I am sure you we be happy I was worried also but this procedure is a life changer
Good luck
Jack
As far as I have read it does not effect sex at all. They are not touching the prostate there just stopping some of the blood flow to shrink the prostate. Now if you have a procedure that cores or burns the inside of the prostate that is were your problem will start. But this is a good procedure. Good luck and rest Ken
THANKS KEN!!
Thank you Jack, I have not seen anything about this issue as well but someone did post that they had a problem a while back. Perhaps it was an issue with them proir to the proceedure.
Best
Lou
I have not heard that and have heard anecdotes that that function actually improves!
I don't know if having children is still a concern for you, but wanted to let you know that my doc told me just before the procedure that there is a possibility of sterilization due to the possibility of some unintended embolization of the seminal vesicle.
No children are not a concern. Thanks for the response. I heard the same thing as well. getting off flowmax is one of my goals and that should help to. How are you doing?
Regards Lou
I had my PAE procedure done on 2nd Dec 2015 at the Freeman hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. After initial discomfort for a couple of days my urine output and flow rate has steadily improved over the course of the last two months. My bladder now empties completely and I get a full night's sleep. I was told that taking tamsulosin hydrochloride was no longer necessary one month after the procedure.
Sexual function has also improved with no ED. One of the main advantages of PAE over other procedures such as TURP or HOLEP is that ED is extremely unlikely, whereas after TURP or HOLEP sex life is usually ruined. I have never heard of anyone having ED after PAE.
My procedure was carried out after being accepted onto a clinical trial (ROPE). Only patients who are without other complications are accepted for this trial, which of course means that the success rate will be high. In my case PAE has been a life changer.
All the best with your PAE procedure on Thursday
Peter
I have had ED problems for several years, often worsened by BPH medications. My PAE was last July, and the interventional radiologist was only able to embolize one side. Still, the improvements have been dramatic in urination. The procedure had no effect, positive or negative, on ED. Cipro, however, did! A UTI was treated after the procedure with Cipro, and it rendered me completely impotent. I stopped taking it after three days and switched to penicillin, but it was another 5 days before I could get a moderate erection! Since then, I have returned to "my normal." I have used viagra for years, but I am becoming conditioned to it, and will ask my urologist to switch to cialis.
Flowmax was the pits. Had retro with that...Ken
great thanks for your kind reply, Lou
thanks so much for the kind reply, Lou
thank you all the best, Lou
me as well, all the best Lou
Thanks for asking. It looks like it's back to the drawing board for me. I'm maybe 5-10% improved as a result of the PAE but unsuccessful so far at 5 months post-procedure since I still have to self-cath and take the alpha-blockers.
What othere options would you consider at this time, TURP/urolift? Did the screening work- up show that your prostate had a very large middle lobe? I understand that the middle lobe being very large will not resolve smptoms very well with the PAE proceedure.
Where did you have your PAE done?
Regards
Lou
Sorry to hear the procedure did not help you with your condition.
Regards
Lou
Try a urolift. It worked great for me and no side effects. My urologist told me that my prostate was the size of a lemon. Put in 4 implants. After a week I was good to go.. Ken
Thanks Kenneth.
I'm not considering TURP. I will look in to Urolift and a very new procedure called the GAT/Goren method that the Prime Minister of Israel recently had for the same condition under intense secrecy/security.
The size of my prostate was in the mid 50s cc and I have a large median lobe.
I had mine done at UNC w/ Dr. Isaacson. He's a fantastice guy and I recommend him. He and Dr. Bagla have done the most of anyone outside of Brazil and Portugal and they aresupportive of each other.
I wonder if they do that in the US. Going to have to read up on it..Ken
