Hi to everyone experiencing pain after hip surgery. I had a total hip replacement in January of this year and had the most awful pains after surgery. My leg and ankle was swollen and I had numbness and pins and needles. I still experience the numbness and pins and needles and find sitting for long periods very uncomfortable but I have really purchased a coccyx cushion and have found this really helps. Also Amitriptyline at night has been a saviour for me. My surgeon recommended more physio so I have been trying very hard to do the excercises religiously which also seems to be helping. I never thought I would be pain free again but luckily it is just time and I am finding each week I am now progressing more. I do wish you all well and don't give up but keep going back to your doctor and do try a tens machine for pain and also the coccyx cushion. These are available on loan from the NHS Physio. Good luck everyone.
Hi
I know you can borrow a TENS but can you borrow a cushion did you just mean the
TENS?
Eileen
Hi Dellar,
Thansks for that, it is so easy to think that pain will never go away, so good to hear your story and that you are beginning to recover. USeful info about the coccyx cushion, too - I had never heard of that! I do use a tens machine, but it seems to work better on my knees than hips. Do you place the sticky pads fore and aft? or along the side?
I bought a tens machine but had the cushion on loan and now I have purchased one from ________ Yve

I place the sticky pads either side of my spine near the bottom of my back and this seemed to help me. Also picnic freezer blocks helped and raising my leg on cushions for 20 min intervals. I know it is painful but do try to keep the operated leg moving even if it's just moving ankles.
