Pain and swelling

Hello,

I would like to know if I should still be experiencing  pain and swelling from my TKR after 8 months? I am still doing exercises and walking but it's still swelling and sometimes painful. I have to admit that I have RA (Rheumatoid arthritis) so that could be a part of the problem. I last saw the surgeon on 10/8/2017 and he stated everything is healing fine. Has anyone else had this problem with swelling and pain after 8 months?

Thanks

Hi, I am 7 months post TKR and still experience slight pain off and on. I can now walk three miles 4 or 5 times a week and utilize several weight machines at the gym. The knee is still somewhat swollen and sometimes stiff but far better than it was a month ago. It is a slow and long process. Keep at the exercise and use a stationary bike when possible. That keeps everything moving.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I was just wondering. I need to have my other knee done; however I am trying to wait until this one is completely healed.

This is such a difficult recovery and every situation and person is different. There are those that go a year or better with swelling and pain being under control. Surgeons are looking at their segment of their process and sometimes forget about other issues.

Again this is a process that must be worked through and be discouraged if your neighbor was running marathons at 6 weeks and you are struggling at 13 weeks. Hang in there and keep doing all the right things and you will be fine.

Hello Lynn I’m almost 8 months tkr and also still experience some swelling and pain on the lateral side of the knee, especially after walking, and lifting my leg while in a sitting position. I’m just hoping that it will keep improving with time. I was told it can take 12 months, now my pt says it may be 18 months.  Good luck  keep up the good work and positive thinking.

I am coming up to 8 months... like Rcurry17, very similar. But the only time i notice a bit of swelling is in a hot bath, apart from that I haven't noticed any.
