Pain/burning feeling in top-left part of chest, below my shoulder, sometimes pulsating to my jaw.

Hello all. I've recently been diagnosed with Tachychardia due to stress, and after doing all the tests EKG/Stress test, blood tests, etc.. the doctor told me I have a healthy heart, but I need to start exercising.

I've been doing so for the past three weeks, but after I work out, and for the rest of the day (sometimes longer), I start having this pain/burning feeling in the top/left part of my chest, below my collar bone.

The pain isn't intense at all, it's more of a burning/cramp sensation. At first I wasn't that worried, but since this morning, it started to move up to my left jaw.. What could be the reason for that? Is it anything dangerous? Should I go to the doctor again?

Hi Gureen

You don't seem very worried.  If it was me I would be really worried because there is something wrong and getting worse.   My reaction would be to go back to my doctor and ask for a reference to a specialist.   Perhaps a neurologist?

Perhaps see another GP and see what he says.  It can get expensive if you try a neurologist and then a heart man and then a stroke expert etc.

I really dont think you should just wait to see if it gets better all by itself.

Good Luck

I'm not that worried because I already went to the GP, and then to the heart doctor and I did all the tests, as I explained. I was having some heavy heart palpiations and BP changes, but they ruled out any heart problems and they said it was because of stress.

After working out, the palpitations and BP changes have almost stopped, but this new problem has appeared.

Hi Gureen

I'm a real worry-wort so I always suspect a doctor's opinion if he says stress or "its just in your mind"

Did you have any of the burning / cramp pains when you saw the GP and the heart specialist?

Lets see if anyone else has some advice.

Cheers

Graham

I wasn't having burning or cramps, but I was having much worse. I kept feeling like my heart will stop, got dizzy waves, my BP was getting dangerously high 160/110, my heart kept jumping in my chest every hour or so or skipping a beat for 2-5 seconds.

I did an EKG, stress test, blood tests and an echocardiogram. All tests came back great, except the stress test revealed tachycardia. The heart doctor prescribed me Megamag for the palpiations, and the GP gave me Xanax for the stress.

The cramp pain is nowhere near my heart, and is more towards the far end of my chest and to the top, but looking online, it looks like a bit close towards the main vein heading to up the neck, but it's still 0.5-2 inches to the left, away from it, and more towards my arm pit.

Is it possible that you are excercising too much too soon?  You're not suddenly running 20km per day are you?   I would say just wait to see if the medications settle it down but I understnd that its getting worse.

I hope it all goes away

I managed to take a break from work and go to my GP for a quick visit. He knew where the exact spot where pain was as soon as I told him the symptoms, and he even told me some more symptoms I wasn't aware of. (My left arm was becoming numb when I sleep and wake up)

It's a combination of two things that are causing this. Apparently the machine I'm exercising on (elliptical machine) focuses on the top muscle in the chest, and is causing strain on it. The strained muscle is affecting the neck and shoulder down the arm. That, combined with sleeping on high pillows on my left side a lot more worse as its causing strain on my neck.

Nothing serious, I just need to work it out and give the muscle time to adjust to the workout load.

Indigestion or acid relux mimic cardiac pain. I get it all the time and have to convince doctors that it is not angina.

As my last doctor used to say after checking me over. What do you think it is? What do you want to do? I could send you to hospital for tests and you you would probably be kept over night and get a hospital acquired infection or we can wait a week or two and see what happens.

I always always chose to wait and always asked for him as his 'Girlie partners' twice sent me straight to the chest pain clinic.

Derek if you continually get acid reflux get it sorted before you get something much worse. e.g. hernia of the oesophagus.

It started with a hiatal hernia diagnosed in 1983. PPI usually keeps the acid under control but does not stop pressure building up.

Did he call it Tietze syndrome or costochondritis?  Doctors seem to like dignosing those complaimts and putting their finger right on the spot.

Sounds like the doctor knows what's going on.

I hope it all works out well for you

Cheers
