Pain down my leg

Hi all, today, 4 wks 1 day post op anterior I’m in more discomfort than after my surgery.

I took yesterday off from walking my daily mile because of the knee pain I’ve been having. Even with pain meds I have some knee pain wen walking. I take a low dose as I’m pretty sensitive to meds. And I’m also very pain tolerant.

I did notice last 2 days that I have laid on my good side I can lay longer but now I feel some discomfort to the side of the top of my foot, it’s above my little toe towards my ankle. It’s a dull ache.

So today I get up and I’m in pain from my buttocks down the side of my leg down to that part of my foot.

Here thinking I’m slowly healing, a lot slower than my first THR, and now I feel like I’ve taken a few steps back.

Anyone with same pain in same area?

Could be sciatica or where you have tightened up its compressing a nerve. The foot may be where you are walking differently. Make an appointment with your GP if you are concerned.

Auntie bean, what could my GP do?

I also drove the last 2 days but this is my left hip. So I don’t think it could be the driving.

I’m now praying it’s not an infection at the joint. I’m just thinking crazy things. Can’t pinpoint why this happened.

I didn’t have an anterior approach op but I have had pain in my knee some days. The physio said it was to do with some muscles overcompensating as the wound heals. It gets better but don’t overdo your exercises. Little and often is better than doing too much at once. Did you use a pillow between your knees when you sleep on your side? That helps to avoid straining your muscles and keeps your hips in a good position. Perhaps worth speaking to your physio as they can look at you and see which muscles are weak and advise you accordingly.

Good luck

Ann

Annie yes always use a pillow between my legs when on my side. Even before my THRs.  With this surgery it starts getting uncomfortable at the side of my thigh, possibly the joint?....when I lay on good side. As the day went on I started to feel more uncomfortable in that area than down my leg. Had more swelling there too.

I am 5 weeks tomorrow, RTHR posterior approach, and have been having similar issues. I took the day off of work yesterday to just rest. I believe mine is from twisting the leg inward, like when putting on socks. I went back to using the sock helper to see if it goes away. I've been extremely nervous since 10 years ago I had resurfacing done first on the left and it broke 7 weeks in, leading to a THR on that side. I know the technique is totally different but any time I have pain now my first thought is "it broke!" I'm having knee pain also which I know is from compensating so I'm trying very hard to be deliberate when walking. Try being deliberate and analyze your other movements, just like me with the socks. If it's still bothering you after a couple of days I would definitely contact your surgeon. Hang in there!

Hi Teri, thanks. Yes actually I have been paying attention now how I’m using my leg. Right after surgery I noticed that foot would turn in and I couldn’t get it to straighten up. But as I walked more it straightened out.

I see my doc in 2 weeks.
