I am using Butran Patches, to relieve pain and I am under pain clinic for pain in lower spine and thoracic/rib pain. Has anyone had the injection in their spine ? I am worried about how they do them safely ? Has anyone had one ? Do they do it as a day case or is it an outpatient thing ?
Hi
I've got osteoarthritis in my hips ankle neck and LOWER SPINE, also got kypho scoliosis {C shape curve in my spine} and spondilitis.
I've had nerve root injections and facet joint injections in myspine.....neither of them worked but thats me they will probably work for someone else
How they did them......Its called a day procedure. Not like going to the clinic where you are in and out again. You can wait around for a while and they take you into theatre as if it was an operation {which it is} They use a fairly long needle but they have cameras/X Rays?? not sure but he can see the needle going in and can guide it to the correct place the injection should be so its quite safe.
I watched the first one I had and could see how the needle was guided in.
Then out of the theatre, into another cubicle into the bed, cup of tea and toast and when you feel ready get dressed and go {making sure they know, and you have any prescriptions they might want you to have, or a letter for your GP}
That was my experience anyway.
It was fine. If only it had worked for me
Saying that I've just had a cortisone injection {not in spine...in the top of my leg} and that is working perfectly....so you go in with the idea that it is definitely going to work

Had some sad new that the Surgeon is not happy with the risk of surgery as my blood vessels are abnormal shapped ( not sure what he means or if this is a risk left as is) as well as a twist in my cord/nerves which he says are in the way.. Hugely stress as it basically waiting game as my back get worse ;0(
Got pain clinic now on 23 jan to dicuss injections

Thats good
At least you have something to look forward to {if you know what I mean} Its better than this "not knowing" situation

Hi Jimmy
how did your appointment go on 23rd? Sounds like I am in a similar position to you. Could not have surgery on neck due to wiierd blood vessels. Cannot have surgery on lower spine because discs have gone on multi levels so now on waiting list for nerve root injections. Had appointment with spinal surgeon on 30 Jan. He said I can have 4 injections. Not sure if that is 4 in a life time. If so what happens after that?
hope your appointment went well.

Pain Management went ok and I ajsut awaiting a date as they do it under a day operation using a x ray machine. There is not a limit as such, but the steriods do have side effects so you wouldn't have them to often. I sure you can have them more than once thou , as long as they work for at least 6-12 months, they obviously wouldn't do them again after 3 months as they deem that as unsuccessful
