I had my second knee replacement on the 6th of January last year and progressed very well and enjoyed a fairly normal life until October when l started to experience sharp pain usually starting in the middle of the night at the side of my knee when moving radiating down my calf causing disturbed sleep.
Not sure if l should contact my consultant or is this tempory setback.
Certainly there can be no harm in consulting with your doctor or specialist to see what is happening. It's quite a long time after the operation, so perhaps it isn't actually specifically connected . . always best to seek medical advice if it continues for more than a few days. I hope it soon gets better for you. Missing sleep is very wearing indeed. . .
Hi Melodi
We all think that TKR will take away all our pain & usually it does.
Chico Marx says it can take up to 18 months to recover.
It is your body & you are aware of when things aren't right. Make an appt. After all it can't do any harm can it.

You should check to see if you have infection. If this pain popped up out of the blue, check it out. I got infection and went through 6 months of hell getting rid of it.
Hi Marilyn
Saw my GP today who specialised in orthopaedics I had a thorough examination and was not concerned but placed me on Naproxen to ease pain let's hope it works.

I'm not sure you said that right...you went thru HELL!!!! I too was infected and it is a hard road and one I'll never forget. I do hope that sometime I can put it out of my mind long enough to do the other knee.
I hope things have straightened up for you and life is back to normal.
Hi Melodi
Glad you've been seen & your doctor thinks it isn't anything serious, let's hope it clears up pretty quick.
I too am on naproxen & it does help. When I had to come off it before this TKR op I really noticed the difference.
Good luck.

Thanks Marilyn but suffering today after her good examination was thinking of starting gentle exercise in the local gym to lose some wt off my legs following the ops but worried now l think l may contact my GP and ask her. X
Are you exercising? X
Hi Melodi
I am not doing any gym work! I do the exercises given by the physiotherapy dept, extra exercises my Physio has given me & stairs. I also try to walk a little further every day.
I shall be seeing my chiropractor next weekend so will prob be given some new ones by her.
I hope you start to feel better soon, less pain.

Hi Marilyn
When did you have surgery? Xx
Hi Melodi
My op was on 17th October 2016. Still early days, bit worried after reading of your problem after year.
But have to stay positive.
