I'm post replacement almost 4 wks. I'm back to having same pain in groin, lower right back and abdomen. I do home PT and doctor refuses to send me to outpatient PT until 6 wk mark. My leg is still tight and ROM stinks. Should I really still be having these issues? Everyone I have talked to has told me their replacement was great and they never felt better. I'm really stressed and frustrated. Thanks. Sorry for the long post.
Important to keep in mind that recovery is different for everyone. Having the tightness/numbness is not unusual. Sometimes the pain starts up again if too much walking is being done. Are you using a walking aid (stick/cane/walker for stability.
After I stopped with strong pain meds in beginning, I sometimes took some tylenol to ease the discomfort.
Contact your doctor/med person about your concerns.
Did you have anterior or posterior approach? In any case, 4 weeks is early. Try to be patient. Your body just went through a major trauma. Dont overdo it or you will have a setback. I suspect you'll notice improvement in the next few weeks. Good luck.
I'm back to using a cane. Dr office doesn't seem to be interested and just asked if I could still weight bear. Answer was yes. Will stock up on tylenol and see if it helps. Thanks for responding!
Surgery was posterior. I'll sure try to be patient. Not one of my better gifts. Ha ha. Thanks for responding!
Hello ang,
I am 7 weeks last wednesday, my leg feels tight at times. I get the occasional groin ache/pain my main discomfort is the thigh bone down the back of the leg, I limp because of this discomfort and use two crutches when on my daily walk as I do not want to damage my back further by continuous limping.
You are only four weeks, you have had major surgery, your bone has been sawn, drilled and put back together, it takes time to recover. Don't feel it is a competition as to who walks better faster, some people have the anterior approach which is different to posterior and apparently faster to heal.
My scar area which has surprised me hurts the more I walk, some days it stings still, but I really do feel it so do not be alarmed if the scar area suddenly starts to hurt, it may/may not happen.
Recover at your own pace.
Hi Ang97783,
I had TLHR 2/23/18. I was walking & climbing the stairs very quickly. I went back to work 2months after surgery. My problem is getting in & out of the car and bending over to pick something up. I agree with the previous replies to you. We all heal differently. The muscle in the leg is taking long to heal but I continue with my day. Hang in there and let your Dr know your progress and concerns.
I am glad I am not the only one having trouble getting in and out of cars. My friends think that as I can now drive again that is it!!
Getting in and out of cars is difficult, especially if I have to sit in back seat. I avoid that as much as possible. I also think more about where I sit when out of the house so no one pushes against my surgical side. I know there won't be any damage to hip but thigh numbness and those muscle/nerve healing areas do hurt a times.
Fortunately driving itself is ok.
