Pain in both ears for 2 weeks.. Antibiotics are not working.. Please help!

I have had ear pain for nearly two weeks.. It goes all down my neck to my shoulders too.. Ive seen about 6 drs all of which tell me different things.. Some say its an infection some say its nothin.. Iv tried antibiotics in tablet form and drops but no relief.. The pain is sometimes in both ears and sometimes in just one.. Ive been to ent who say my ears are fine but the pain is soo bad i cant cope.. What can i do next? Has anyone else had this? Please please help me as its really worrying me.. Any advice is much appreciated

Have you had a hearing test and a tympanogram (which tells you what is happeneing in youf middle ear/eustachian tube?) Following this you could try a dentist to see if the pain is coming from your teeth/jaw and then a chiropractor/physiotherapist if the pain is coming from your neck or back. I hope you get an answer soon. Ear pain is shocking!!!

I can always count on you for a reply thankyou.. I will have to try them things next i just find it bizarre how im in pain but nobody can find anything.. Ear pain is the worst! Can i ask are you from the uk?

I am in Perth, Western Australia. Hopefully the audiologist can tell you if there is an infection in your ear so you know where to go from there. All the best!!! x

Wow i would love to visit australia! Whats the weather like at the moment.. Do u think its worth having an ear swab?

The weather is about 37degrees celcius. HOT!!!! I don't think an ear swab is worthwhile as if the ENT can't see anything in the ear canal then it's not likely to be infected. The reason I recommend a hearing test and tympanogram is so that you can see if anything is happening behind your ear drum and in your eustachian tube.

Wow we dont hav that at any time during the year in the uk lol lucky you! Will i hav to be referred for a hearing test and tympanogram

No you should be able to phone up and book a hearing test but every country may be different so it won't hurt to ask when you phone up.

Thays fine ill try that.. Im sure loads of people do them

Is it just a normal hearing test im doing?

Yes- a full hearing test with tympanometry.

Hello ranera,

I suffered from my years from the age of around 5-12, I was in loads of pain non stop often feeling like a hot needle was being put through my ear drums.

I got told I could of been offered grommits as the tubes in my ears where undeveloped so the pressure would build up and cause my ears to hurt.

That's one thing that could be worth asking about, as it sounds to me now that there not really helping you.

I had the same I was placed on antibiotics all the time and it would come back, and would often get worse in cold weathers.

I used to have a lot of time off for this however didn't think many people understood my situation.

Once getting older I did grow out of this, but my mom then experience a spell of trouble with her ears.

After her having so much pain, which used to cause her to go dizzy and feel like a heavy weight on the back of her neck and head and also often causing her to faint, she went back for them to then diagnose her with manyares disease.

I think this can be brought on by anything but not many people have it as it's uncommon, it effects your balance and you never really know when you will have a break out.

I would advise you to go back or do some reasearch into this more, so you can go back to your doctor and ask for certain help or advice on what you think it could be.

After all, we know our own bodies.

I hope I've helped and I

Hope this is sorted out , as mine caused me many years of unwanted pain.

Good luck, I hope I helped.

Awwww bless u thankyou for such a long message! I have an ent appo on 18th so will

Mention that

Went for my hearing test today.. She said my hearing is fine but i have some fluid behind my ear drum.. Could that be causing me pain?

that's fine, good luck.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!! Take the results back to another ENT. The one you saw should have at least checked your middle ear function and hearing!!! Go to one who specialises in eustachian tube dysfunction. If it is not able to be treated by nasal sprays and medications, it would be helpful if the ENT you are seeing can perform eustachian tube balloon dilation. The ENT receptionists will be able to tell you if the ENT performs this. Good luck. Glad you finally found out what the problem is!!!!

Hi rahela, don't ask the ENT if you have Meniere's disease as you don't have the symptoms of hearing loss, vertigo etc and ENT's hate clients that self diagnose. Just let them know you need the fluid behind your ear drum treated.

Its annoying though coz the gp yday said iv got abit of an infection in the ear canal lol

Iwulldo ur a star! I hav had dizziness for two years though

I will **
