i am almost 6 weeks post op. Had right THR. I felt things were moving along great. In the last few days I have had pain in groin area in BOTH legs!!! At my last check up Doc said I will eventually need THR in left side but haven't had a twinge of pain till recently. Anyone else have groin pain??
Hi, I had a LTHR in May 15' I now have groin and knee pain on the right side. I'm sure I will need a THR on the right side in the near future. I heard once you get one replaced the other starts to show signs of wear.
I would never wan to scare anyone and I am in the US so our surgeries may vary, but physical therapist always asked " you don't have any groin pian do you?" I would just suggest you call your surgeon. Good luck!
Hi Molly.
I'm just under 6 weeks post on my right as well. I had my left one done in April. Are you getting PT? Also, are you doing the Clam exercise and the Thomas Stretch ? These are good ones for your psoas muscle which will help with groin pain.
Groin pain? Where exactly is the pain? I have discomfort on my operated leg where thigh meets abdomen. Is that considered groin? I am still on hip precautions. I'm 7 weeks out from second surgery. It only bothers me when sitting. Also it's mentioned that once you get one hip some you will have to get other done? Why is that? I mean my left hip is a good hip. My right was bad at birth. Been that way for 53 years never had any problems with left hip. LD
I think the clam is clenching your butt muscles but what is the Thomas stretch.
The Clam is lying on your side with your knees drawn up, keeping your feet together you raise your knee hold for 5 then lower.
The Thomas Stretch is harder to explain, there are loads of demonstrations on YouTube for it. It's one to do when your restrictions are lifted. It's also a good one to test if your psoas are tight.
Thx Annette. I'm in US also. I do have follow up on Thursday. Hope I'm just overdoing. Don't know why they would both hurt tho.
What are clam and Thomas stretch? I will gladly do them. 😀
Groin is at very top of your leg. I have no pain while sitting. Only when walking. 😥
hi Molly In my 11th week THR I had groin pain which apparently was tendinitis of the adductors which run from the knee to the groin on the front of your leg towards the inside of the leg. I am having continuous physio for nerve damage and the physio just massaged deeply the troublespot until it eased off, or, alternatively just ease up on what ever you are doing in the way of exercise, walking et cetera. Hope this helps Regards Dot
I'm in US and had Anterior approach, I had groin pain at physical therapy and she told me that was inflammation and to take Motrin...
I am 9 weeks Post op from INJURY. I had home therapy for 6 weeks, 2 weeks also in rehab. I am not in outpatient PT for 6 more weeks. I had ball replacement with the femur connected to ball.
I have groin pain. That means while you are still recuperating, that the therapists don't want to address it, until you are doing better.
After all this rehab, I still have groin pain, but we are doing different exercises to strenghten the muscles around it. Since I am so far along, groin pain doesn't mean dislocation, but in new surgeries the hip precautions have to be set.
NO bending past the 90 degree angle. No crossing legs. Do not pick up anything on the floor. No swiveling.
We are strenghting muscles, as I mentioned to help with that pain.
for the person who has it on other side too, it means that your muscles and core have yet to be strengthened thru exercise. I am NOT a doctor so i am only repeating what has been drilled into my head about hip precautions after surgery. Especially for the first 3 months.
correction to text. I am NOW in ourpATIENT pt.
I am in USA too.
hi molly,
around 3 weeks post-op from 1st R THR I started to have groin pain on both sides -
this lead me to this forum - there are all kind of reasons why this occurs -
at 6 weeks follow-up appointment with surgeon, x ray showed rapid decline of cartilage in left hip - from mild to bone-on-bone in 6 months -
I had 2nd THR 6 months after 1st one ...
When is your follow up appointment - ask if there will be an x-ray taken ...
big warm hug and let us know how you are getting on ..
