hi brenda,

interesting ... I am much more aware of my feet post-op THR - seriously .. like they have a life of their own -

I am not sure what I can tell you - maybe a nice foot massage ? Our feet have a lot of muscles - do you have new shoes or are you walking differently ?

what kind of pain is it?

curious if there are other members who have this experience ---

big warm hug

renee

Hi Renee.

I have got 4 new pairs of flat shoes. It happens with any of them. Thinking about it, it seems to have gone worse since stopping using my crutch. It could be how I'm walking because I still have pain in groin / toe so I know I've got a limp. The big toe thing has been there since op. Lying on my back, I had to keep quilt off my foot.

Perhaps giving yourself a foot massage with a tennis ball might help.

Put the ball on the floor and put your instep on the ball quite firmly, then still firmly roll the ball from the ball of your foot to your heel in a figure of eight. Do this a number of times on each foot (if you can manage).

Remove the ball, and put your foot on the ground.  You should find your foot quite relaxed and feeling nice,

Thanks Chloe, I'll buy myself a tennis ball when I go shops. Worth giving anything a try.

Nice tip Chloe - thanks for sharing this.

I hope you are doing well.

Hi Brenda. Sorry to hear about the pain in your big toe. I don't have an answer other than to say I also have had sharp pain in my big toe non operated leg/foot at times and under my arch of my foot. Not really sure what that's about. Pain seems to arise at so many different parts of the body. Hope the tennis ball and massaging if the foot helps.

I am going to see an Osteopath today for pain relief. I will let you know if I get any tips.

Take Care,

Cathy

Yes Cathy please do. Any little tips may help a number of ppl.

Hi Brenda, I have that pain goes through foot to big toe, only problem is it isn't in the side I had operated on, it is in the side that I am getting done next week. Doubt that my problem relates to yours, but it sure can be aggravating...

Aww Barbie, at least mine is on my op leg.... I can blame something for it.

Hi Linda Yes I'm doing fine thanks - no walking aid needed and no limping (most of the time).  Also driving and back at work too.

Seeing the surgeon next week for my 6 week check up at 8 weeks (oh well can't be picky) and fully expect to be given the all clear.

How about you?

Re the tip - my thanks goes to my Pilates instructor for a very delightful massage

I'm doing well most of the time (like everyone else), I overdo it once in a while and pay). But I feel as if I am about 75% and ready for hip #2 to be done in September. So feeling good about it all overall. Thanks.

Hi Brenda. I am afraid I am not going to be much help. I went to the Osteopath earlier today. She didn't go into detail but basically said that my left operated leg is approx. 1 cm longer than my other leg. Could just be tight muscle but I have flat feet so pain numbing could be a result in my foot. Suggested orthotics.

About my hips and body pain, she indicated that my hip muscles especially my operated hip muscles are going into spasm, reacting as well if there was an injury which is the trauma from surgery recovery of the body. She did an oil massage on the areas of the hip scar to butt region, touched tender spots. It helped soothe those areas. She Said that some of the hip muscles are connected to back muscles so causing pain in that area too. She attributes the right hip pain to those muscles working very hard. Each area taking a pounding when I am walking with that tilted gait. Good news is that the massaging of the specific area of the hip gave relief. Osteopathy says I am treatable. So feel better and recommended to go for 2-3 more treatments. Silly part is that I am still ambivalent as Osteo is not recognized as 'legit' treatment. Wondering if I should just go to a Registered Massage Therapist or stay with Osteo.

Sorry I am musing out loud and not really helping you.

Seems like massaging overall does provide relief so hopefully you are getting some massaging and/or doing self massage.

Take Care,

Cathy

hahaha brendahis I can blame something for mine too...lol It is called old age and arthritis...lol...wishing you well.....Barb

Hi Cathy,

I have had a few massages off my daughter. Not her job she's just good at it. Funny how you ach all over, I'm the same. Last time I went to my physio, she said I'm quite flat footed. She's ordered me some arch things for my shoes. (Wonder if that could have anything to do with toe pain? )

Brenda xx

Good that you have been lucky enough to have the operation. My poor dad ended up in a wheelchair with his arthritis. Never got offered the operation. (Probably to old )

Hi Brenda it's your name sake Brenda C. I am now nearly 7 months post op and I have had the same problem all this time. At first doctor told me it was too soon to tell what the matter was. When I went for my 7 week check the doctor told me it was plantar fasciitis, I had this at least 10 years ago and this is 100% worse. I have been told there is nothing that can be done and it will last for 9-12 months. I've had private physio, Chiropody, chiropractic and the podiatry all with no change.

At long last I have been to see an orthopaedic surgeon who is sending me for nerve conduction tests.  I will let you know the outcome when these tests have been done.  It could be a few months, but good luck with your foot problem.

All the best Brenda C

Hi Brenda,

I hope they find out your problem. I let you know if /when my swollen ankle goes down.

Hi Brenda

Has the swelling gone down in your foot now, its 3 months since I las heard from you.  Regarding the problem with my foot, I finally had an appointment to see an orthopaedic surgeon who agreen he thought it was a nerve problem and told me he would send me for a nerve conductionn test.  That was August 20th and I still haven't heard from them.

Wishing you all the best Brenda C

Hi Brenda, my swelling has gone down, only about 4 wks ago. It still sore on top of my foot in the morning till I've walked on it a bit. As its always said on here, it takes different times to get over different things. I hope yoi get your appointment through soon. Take care xx
