pain in knee, any idea what it could be

I am now at 10 weeks after right tkr, when I was first referred to

physiotherapy after a few weeks I didn't have any pain at all. The first visit to the physio gym class left me in real pain on my knee

cap, 5 weeks later I still have the pain when I put weight on my

leg to walk. The physio's don't seem at all bothered, I don't have

any other pain. Has anyone else had this, or does anyone have

any ideas on what it is or what it could be.

Hi suzie

Why did u have to have a tkr wjat happened to your knee

Susie, what sort of pain are you talking about? There will be pain for a long time, unfortunately. For most of us, it's a different, lesser pain that what we had before. I had to remind myself that I had foreign objects in my knees.

Hi, it was oesteoarthritis in my knee, had it about 10 years and was getting really, really bad .

Hi Mo, not sure how to describe it, it is at the top of my knee cap I think,  to the right of the scar (right leg) and just below where the knee bends. no pain when i am sitting but when i do my stretches or walk it is very painful, what annoys me is I didnt have any pain at all till I went to the physio gym class, wish I hadnt taken their advice and stuck to one on one physio now. no arthritis pain though yay!!!!

It's been 22 months since I had both of my knees replaced, so my memory isn't as clear. Most of my pain was behind my knees, as tendens and ligaments and muscles healed. I do have pain in the right knee and found out nearly a year after the TKRs that my knee cap will need replaced - so this brings ongoing pain on stairs and if I walk too much. Hopefully someone on here will have some answers.

Hi Susie .. sounds to me like your physio is possibly pushing you too hard.  I wouldn't of thought you were ready for the gym just yet .. but hey were all different and so is each knees recovery.  Have you spoken with your dr about it?  Listen to your knee it knows best .. if it's not coping with all that the physio is making you do tell them .. and if they don't listen maybe you could find another more empathetic one.  And remember to ice ice ice especially after exercise or when it's bothering you throughout the day.  Take care x

It sounds like what you are experiencing is a tendinitis of the quadricep tendon. Your physio has different ways to treat it.  One one of the best things you can do is a lot of gentle stretching of the quad muscles for at least a minute, especially after you exercise.

Thanks Tere, can you suggest any exercises  please

Hi again, just Googled the quadriceps muscle and the pain is

just below that.......

Sorry for late reply, I'm in the process of moving.  The tendon does run below the muscles. What it does is attach the muscles to the knee cap.  Exercises such as step ups and heel tap downs will work it, but the most important thing is to stretch the quad muscles.

Thanks so much will try these too. Good luck with your move.
