Pain in left leg after hip replacement in right hip

Had a hip replacement operation three weeks ago. No problems so far. I do have a lot of pain from time to time though in the quadriceps muscles of my other leg. Is this normal? Has anyone had a similar experience? I did put a lot of weight on my good leg prior to the operation and I wonder if this could be the cause.

Would be grateful for any suggestions.

Hi Janette, glad 2 hear it's all going pretty well 4 u at the minute ☺ i think u mite find that ur quads on the other leg r still having 2 work extra hard 2 compensate 4 the weaker leg so it should hopefully die down as u continue ur recovery, I'm only 5 days post op with my left THR so can't say I'm experiencing that at the minute, I have had both knees replaced during the past 4 years (the left 1 twice already) & did have the symptoms u describe both times, hopefully as u go long with time these symptoms will go? Try & keep 2 ur excercise plan as this really does help in the long run, but then again don't overdo it (as I did) & ended up with a 30% tupture on my tendon & quadss which again required more surgery as I could not physically left my left leg from the floor, so like I say take things easy & don't get carried away, hope this helps a bit? If ur worried about anything always check with ur GP or fizio, good luck & a speedy recovery 😉

It's really normal to experience aches and pains all over because your whole body is realigning itself. Ask yourself if you are holding a strange posture. Look in a mirror and see if you can detect any imbalances. It can feel surprisingly normal to be holding an odd posture.

Hi. Pain in muscles of non operated leg is perfectly normal as it compensates for the different gait. You also favour the good leg consciously or unconconsciously because of fear of harming the operated leg. As soon as you're more mobile - and that happens pretty rapidly -it'll settle down. You may also have a slight leg length discrepancy as the tissues are healing and swelling and bruising are still very much there. Three weeks is so early in recovery. Give it all time and good luck!

Yep.  Everyone here correct.  You've been compensating, Muscles in other leg getting quite the workout!

Many thanks to everyone who responded to my message. All the comments were helpful and reassuring. I will continue to walk, walk, walk, as the surgeon instructed  and trust that it will all come right in the end.

Regards.
