Pain in leg 4 months postTHR

Had THR in March 2014 still having a lot of pain down left leg. Was started on lyrics by go, but could  not tolerate. Now on amitriptyline but making me so sleepy done nothing for pain. Have 2 young children to look after. Helps me sleep but not for pain.

Hi Lara

I cant take amitriptyline because the clash with other I take.

What time do you take yours at.  People on another forum I'm on have said try taking them about 7pm otherwise in the morning you'll be half asleep.

They are meant to be a muscle relaxant and if they are making you sleep well thats good....yolu mustn't have pain during the night then. They arent an analgesic like paracetamol that you take during the day to ease the pain.

Helps me sleep a bit better but pain still there most of the time.thought I'd be pain free 4 months post surgery

Some take a year recovery and still deal with challenges...

My go to pain reliever is ibuprofen and I buy a supp called Pain RX to use in between ibuprofen as needed.,

I use DGL (stomach lining tamer) for stomach protection for my pain meds...

I use far more supplements than pharma drugs. Been working in supp world for 25 some yrs.

I don't think there is a "time" for being pain free from these surgeries.....I live in pain most of the day, but high threshold and don't want the drugs the docs want people to take. I've learned to live with a dull pain, no other choices for me....some supps I take help with pain reduction. I deal with overall OA and Fibro. And old age.... j

Hi Laura,

Remember ur body has been thru serious surgery. It's takes time for the body to heal. Leg pain is a issue for many after THR surgery. It was a year before I could sleep and make it thru the day without that nagging pain. It's a bummer thinking u have been thru surgery and the pain just won't go away. It will get better it takes time and rest.

I did have to admitt I was very active and I can look back and say that muscles and tendons and bone take time to grow and rejouvinate. Patience is tough in a busy lifestyle but necessary for protecting UR hip for many years of use. You have come so far it's only been 4 months...UR almost there. Give UR body a few more months.

Hi Lara,

I am also in pain following thr (Mar 2013) and have been prescribed Gabapentin. It's a drug that you have to gradually build up the dosage in order to get the full effect, do ask your GP about it, I would say that for me it's good.

I also take paracetamol and codiene together they do help when extra pain control is needed.Hope you get some relief soon, coping with young children at the same time must be difficult for you.
