Pain in leg?

Just a quick question, to see if anyone has an answer for this!

I am just over the 17 weeks after a total hip replacement and for the last two days i am experiencing pain in my think under the hip replacement! Its sore to walk but grand when i sit down! It feels like the bone down my leg is paining me! I am back at work and on my feet all day and i spent long hours in the garden on my days off, gardening and painting!

I think i overdid it but just worried i have done some damage? Had to take pain killers yesterday as it hurt so much and i havent needed them since week 4!

And before this i have sailed through the recovery so dont want this to set me back! Can anyone help

Hi Stargate fan

I had the same thing at five months. After making good progress beforehand, I ended up having to take painkillers and use a stick again for several days which felt like a real setback. I also think I overdid it, doing too much aquafit and aquajog in my case, which I thought would be safe as my weight was supported by the water. Like you I was worried I'd done some damage, so I made an appt with my surgeon. By the time I saw him I was much better, pretty much back to where I was before and the doc could find nothing wrong. He reassured me it was probably just a bit of inflammation and told me to be more gentle in future when exercising. Hope it's the same for you and nothing to worry about!

Hi Stargate. I agree it sounds like maybe you overdid. Always when in doubt touch base with your surgeon. If you have inflammation hopefully the pain meds will help reduce. I'm just over 90 days post op & like you, had been sailing through recovery & quit doing my home exercises. That was a mistake. Back to doing them & my discomfort on the first few steps is improving. Just a thought.

Sounds as if you over did it a bit but I'd check in with my orthopedic surgeon just to be sure all is well. TC Vickie

Hi please remember that you have had a major operation. Take it steady.Ask your phsyio.Maybe a few sessions in a hydrotherapy pool will help. But please don't over do it.regards Amanda h

Hi ruth,

Thanks for your advice! And i also stopped doing my exercises as i am back at work and always on my feet so maybe need to get back to exercises and less rushing to get back to full fitness!

Regards

Mary

I have the same issue and you can read my full story to see what I am going through and what course of action I have taken. Sorry not good results yet and the pain is still there. Tell me specifically how it feels and what you are doing to aggrevate it if anything. Mine is caused by some fall, strain or aggrevation on my part starting with a tearing sensation of the interior stitching when I ran atwenty feet after only a few months, before then I was great, after has been very different and disappointing.

Hi Stargate fan,

I'm with the others, might just be connected with being so busy, but maybe check with your doctor.

I was the same as you, very straight forward recovery, but when I was first back at work my hip was quite achy, which alarmed me, because it had been fine. I was a bit careful for a while, and it just sorted itself out.

Good luck, Judith
