Pain long after birth

Hi all, first time poster. I have been having this issue with my wife for over 5 years so I am trying to see how serious this is. Ever since the birth of our 1st child 5 years ago, our activity has been agonizing experience both physically and mentally. the frequency has declined from 2~3 times a week prior to maybe once a month and when it happens, she is suffering through it and we end up stopping. and since our 2nd child 3 years ago, it's gotten even worse. We obviously didn't do anything for good 6 months immediately following each birth so her body can heal. The problem is she feels discomfort around her clitoris (too sensitive to touch) and even labia for which she describes the feeling as tingly exposed nerve ending. I know what this feels like because I had a pretty deep cut on my finger that has permanent nerve damage. When I try really hard not to be in contact with those area, she says the inner vagina has similar discomfort, though less than above areas. on top of tingling discomfort, she also feels pressure and friction burn if the session goes on for more than a few minutes. We tried lubricating with water based lube but she screamed as soon as it was in, saying it burns, so we dropped that option altogether. I've heard stories of pain up to 1 year after birth, and also am aware that emotional aspect post-birth that naturally forces activities to be more vanilla, but it's really horrible that she feels like this every time. I feel guilty for being pleasured when shes in pain and also for wanting more. Everytime I suggest we go see a doctor, she says it's gotten better so we don't need to. I sometimes wonder whether she just lost interest altogether and sort of using this as an excuse to not get better. With that in mind, I am just trying to focus on the physical/medical aspect of it. I am wondering what the cause of this is and how we go about fixing it. Thank you!

Hey! Google a condition called vulvodynia. It sounds a lot like this could be the cause of your wifes problems! It is a tricky condition often triggered by nerve damage but there are a lot of different things available that may help
