pain management

So am going to this pain management on Tuesday and am not sure what to expect. If anybody as been to this can you please help me on what it is an if it actually helps in anyway thanks kirsty xx

I see a Dr pandit at st Albans /Watford pain clinic it has taken me over 8 yrs to get to see him and 2 and a half Yrs ago I fell over and got severe sciatica I was pushed from Dr to physio to crops team twice before I see him and he hasn't given me any pain relief to take but he did put me in for injections in my back twice first time I got a bit of relief and second none at all. I saw him in May last and I need other appointments before anything else is done so I'm playing the waiting game this has taken it's till on me and work is difficult for me as I struggle with pain every day the gp won't give me anything else to take and says it's pain management to sort that out but the pm says it's drs job to sort out in process to stay in work my hrs have been reduced and once done I will never get those hrs back so I'm screwed because everything takes so long to sort out wish I had private health or money I might get seen quicker. Hope you get better results than me I feel for you as pain is no laughing matter x

Thanks Linda am not holding my breath to be honest as my mum suffers with fibro an she went last yr an she said it never helped her but she is very forgetful so can't really rely on her to tell me anything... I waited yr and half to see my pain specialist but before that I was in chronic pain all the time an all they would give me was paracetamol which was no use what so ever. When I finally seen them and he wrote me up for pain relief my doctors who are rubbish at the best of times decided they was going to change it all so as you can understand I was not impressed so rung pain specialist who then rung my crap gp to basically say stop meddling.. mine is in Liverpool at Walton nureo clinic am going to go in with a open mind an see what happens. That is so bad the way you was treated I think these doctors don't really understand it so that's why we get passed around like test subjects. Thank you for your reply xxx

I've been, I did a 6 month course with weekly 3 hour sessions, it was a group discussion. Useful for talking within the group as all similar to yourself. You do CBT and relaxation, mindfulness and how to maintain your pain medication, you get some physio as well, I enjoyed it so I hope you do to.

I've been too. Mine was 2 sessions of 3 hours a week for 5 weeks. As Trisha says, CBT plated a large part, plus exercises, relaxation, etc. I found mine helpful and enjoyable, have kept in touch with other group members. As you say, go with an open mind. Hope you enjoy it and get something out of it. x

Thanks for reply hopefully I will do

Thank you I am going into with a open mind an hopefully I will find helpful and enjoyable as well xx

That's just the way to go into it, open minded, and that's when you will see how you like it, I found being in a group more beneficial as we were able to give each other tips and help, and things that maybe is out there you weren't aware of.

Wow where is your pain clinic is it any where near Hemel Hempstead as I don't get much at mine just see a Dr who says try and manage without pain killers and sent me for surgery on my back twice first lasted 10 days second did nothing but make pain worse I'm so fed up. I've some cbt but had to sort that out myself

Mine is in Glasgow, and it was set up for me by a consultant at the hospital x

That was my plan an was actually looking forward to going. Only I had a flare up or that's what the hospital said it was but this is in my stomach I had chronic stomach pain and fever an my skin was so clamy it was awful the surgeon told me am back home nw. so will have to rebook for another time xxx

Oh poor you Kirsty, what a shame! Hope you are feeling better now and are able to rearrange your course. Take care. x

That's a shame, that's another thing about being ill isn't it, you don't know when your gonna have a good day or not.

Most certainly is such a nightmare it is x

Thanks am getting better nw stomach cramps have gone. Just having problem wid walking nw ankles are so sore but feet up an hopefully will ease soon xxxx
