I'm 50 years old. I'd always practiced sports, usually aerobics and weights at the gym. About 2 months ago I walked 2 blocks and when running those 2 blocks back I felt a sharp pain on my right buttock going down my hamstring. I didn't stop. Next day I was limping and the pain was very intense. I didn't rest but I took Ibuprofen and I didn't do any exercise for like 3 weeks.
I used hot packs, cold packs, rest with legs elevated, etc. I also had a cycle with cortisone (the usual pack where you take 6 the first day, then 5, etc). Nothing really helped. The pain in my right groin is not a 9 but certainly more than a 6. It's very confusing to determine from where does the pain comes. Sometimes it hurts when I touch the area where the leg meets the pelvic toward the back but sometimes it doesn't hurt. It seems like the lesion, if any, is deep. Some symptoms reminds me to a piriformis issue.
A have been checking different forums but usually for them this pain didn't happen after exercising. I'm doing some stretching exercises directed to the piriformis area but the pain is still there.
Do you have any advise, beside going to the Dr, where I had been too?
Hi Rebecca....I was searching the internet because I have exactly what you have only it's on my left side. I enrolled in this site hoping you had found an aswer I went to my doctor and he gave me an inflammatory and told me not do the leg weights at the gym. However he did say I could walk which I do every weekend. The pain in my groin comes and goes. I took the meds and didn't do leg weights for a month. Finally went back to the gym lowered the 20 lbs - it was fine but as soon as I got on the treadmil it flaired up again. Sometimes it will stretch into my hamstring and sometimes my butt. Do you have any updates on your situation. Thanks.
Sounds like what happened to me after exercising on eliptical a few months ago. I started with a pain in groin felt like a pulled muscle then it started to get worst and went I to butt area. I developed a limp and my leg went stiff. I finally went to doctors got x-rays and a MRI found out I had AVN Avascular Necorisis. Make sure you mention it to your doctor so they can check if you have it. Sometimes it doesn't show in the X-ray in early stages. So a MRI is needed to confirm it. It is possible to treat it without surgery depending on the stage of it.
So far, nothing new. The MRI showed that I have a hernia in a vertebra but I knew that from before. I have been researching about the Pudendal nerve. The pain comes and go, no matter if I exercise or not. I will keep you updated if I found the origin and the treatment. Thank you.
Thanks for your input. I tried PT for a month...that didn't help. So I decided no exercise for 2 weeks. So after the 2 week period I went to the gym, did mostly arms and some leg strentching and boom.... by the time I got home from work my groin was killing me. So now I haven't worked out for another week and I've only had one flare up for a short period of time. This Monday I'm going to go back to the gym and do arms ONLY. Let's keep each other posted.
No doubts. It's really frustating because not doctor has the same opinion. I stop exercising for 2 months and the pain was there, coming and going but there. So yesterday I went to the 5K promoted in my city (Miami) and I walked and ran because anyway I was in pain. Today I feel like yesterday, the exercise didn' t make it worst even though I understand that probabbly it was not very wise . I'm checking another options, so I let you know whatever I found.
If you have pain inside from your hip bone AND in your lower back, this may be the result of a tight psoas muscle because it wraps around and inserts in both places. A good option would be treatment by someone trained in MFR ( myofascia release) .
Hi I am 35 suffering the same R hip, groin, hamstring, running pain thru back of knee& into calf muscle. Although I've had this issue on and off for the past yr or so? I'm at a loss as to why or what else to do. It has recently caused swelling thru out the right leg and random bruises.?? Help anyone?
Hi have you had any improvement yet. I have exactly the same problem and have been suffering for over a year now. I was an avid runner until one day getting pain in my right lower back, groin and high in my buttock which sometimes goes into my thigh. I've been seen by physio, chiropractor, doctor completely dismissed me, have just been private who thought it was due to endometritis, just had surgery and it wasn't. Now I'm at a loss again. Days it feels like my pelvis/hip is going to dislocate. Really needing answers, to suffer for over a year unable to do any cardio or weights because of it. It's driving me crazy. Would love to know if anyone has had any success with this issur
Hi. Your symptoms are exactly like what I had, the buttocks and lower abdomen pain. My husband would have to rub my lower back/upper buttocks because the pain would be nagging. Anyway to make a long story short I had a cyst on my ovaries the size of a golf ball. I had to have a partial hysterectomy. Now my menstrual cycle is so painful.
Hi, OMG this is terrible! I went for a run/walk 2 days ago today i cannot walk easily. My groin, thigh, and right butt cheek so sore. Went to Dr he X-rayed my hip find out tomorrow results. Someone,
please tell me this is going away I have ski trips planned and paid for. Thanks
I am having the same issue. Mine started 3 mo the ago. As of 2 weeks ago I have been able to stop using a cane. The pain is so high on the inside of my right thigh it's almost in the pubic bone. Some days it feels pretty good and other days it's awful. My chiro has told me I have a very tight piriformis but it has been that way for years. How are you feeling? Did you get any answers? I've been x-rayed, take 2 Aleve twice a day and had physical therapy and try to do stretches at home. I don't know what kind of doctor to see for this issue. I've been to a sports/orthopedic dr so far.
My pain now is in the fold of my right leg and putting pressure on the pubic bone is a little tender. I have pain that is in the upper right glute area and as I'm laying down, I have sciatic type pain going down my thigh. I have no idea on who to see about this.
interesting....my pain ranges from my foot to my knee to my thigh, it pinches on the inner thigh near the pubic area and now swelling, I decided to take MSM for pain, but my kidney's are a bit taxed, so my leg blew up a bit, so I backed off that, but the lower buttocks on the right side is swollen and driving me nuts....
i realized I thought I was typing to you, and posted above, to carry on, my calf gets tight and releases and then my hamstring, and then my glute...and now the swelling which is driving me nuts....figured I would join the conversation to see where we get to
Yes pain in my tailbone. I've had this issue for 2 years. I have figured out that doing squats everyday helps but if I miss doing squats three days in a row he comes back.
