Hi I’m a 23 year old male.
I have been getting a pain in my right hand side for two years now, it can either be a sharp or dull on and off pain everyday. The pain is usually around the belly button to the right or it can be upper and lower abdomonal pain always the right hand side. Sometimes get back pain and groin pain towards the right the pain usually last a few seconds. I also suffer with indigestion and gas. I have been to the doctors who told me it was ibs he did a stool test and a blood test there came back normal. After a year and a half of going to the doctors there Finaly sent me to a specialist who gave me a colonoscopy and a ultrasound which also came back normal. The doctor told me that if I was still getting the pain he would give me a ct scan which now he is telling me that there is no need and basically told me there nothing wrong with me and if the pain gets worse go to a and e. So now I feel like I’m at a dead end and unsure what to do as the pain doesn’t seem to go away. Has anybody else experience this im worried it could be my appendix.
Thanks
Forgot to meantion that my bowe movements change, mostley soft
get your doctor to refer you to the hospital because it could be IBS you will have a camera up the back passage to see in there is anything else it could be but it all the tests come back clear then you will proberbly be told its ibs from the doctor at the hospital coz i had the same problem and i have had this a long time now errrm about just over a year now i have been tested for cealiac disease that came back clear i had tests same all clear i had a camera first time it was thought to be polips witch were removed second time i went they found a tuma that was removed but i was still having loose bowels to i had a CT scan thats just come back clear so the doctor thinks almost curtain its IBS i have to be on a lactose free diet to see if that makes my bowel movments better and so far it is but i still aint sure but its looking like it is so i would go see your CP if i were you mate
If nothing is coming up, it sounds more likely to be IBS. Your ultrasound would have shown up a bad appendix. If it showed nothing, your appendix is likely to be fine. Bowel habit change is an IBS symptom. I had similar symptoms of shifting, generalised stomach pain, bowel habit change, back pain and nausea. I was diagnosed with IBS which doesn’t show on any scan or test. Does your pain get temporarily better after a bowel movement?
I was told a similar thing to you by one of my doctors. One told me that all my tests would have to be done again to check nothing had been missed because no one could diagnose me. My final doctor told me this was unnecessary because all my symptoms had not changed in 3 and a half monrhs, and I had no new symptoms. That’s how my IBS was diagnosed. I feared for my appendix too. I had many other health anxieties. When everything is ruled out, IBS can be diagnosed.
Trust the doctor who said it was IBS. If your doctor told you that you don’t need a CT, accept this. Don’t worry because anxiety will aggravate you symptoms. Your doctor should have prescribed you an antispasmodic for the pain; you could try OTC Buscopan or ask your doctor for an antispasmodic. You may have to try several to find one that works. You have not reached a dead end; I felt the same and gave up any hope of answers but got much better after disgnosis.
IBS pain can come and go or be daily and constant. I have experienced both. Everyone experiences IBS differently. Try a food diary to rule out food triggers which are common with IBS.
