I had a bilateral hip replacement in January 2012. A fee complications with my heart and blood pressure but everything ok nowish.
A few weeks ago I started to notice a dull aching sensation in my left hip. Not at the front but at the back. It has become worse over the last few days.it is difficult to stand for long periods of time and I have to put all my weight on my right leg when I do. I notice the pain when i twist or turn and ho from sitting to standing. Lastly I do go to the gym 3 times per week and use the ski walking machine. But on a hard setting have done this for two years to help me lose weight and tone up. Any ideas guys??? Roy
Dear Roy,
It could be anything, but it sounds like you could be irritating your Sciatic nerve. You really need to go back to your doctor and get it checked. If I were you, I would,nt keep on your Ski walking machine until you know what it is. Sciatic nerves do not like being stretched! I am a qualified nurse Practitioner with a lot of experience of The dreaded Sciatica! Good luck. Sue
I agree with Sue. I would stop the exercise and go to your doctor before you do some damage.
Hi
Yes I agree with the rest....stop exercising and go to the doc and see what he says before re starting it

Hiya and thanks for all of the advice .l have been to my gp and she suggested and prescribed painkillers for sciatica. Although they appear to be working I am aware that it might be just papering over the problem. Can anyone suggest exercises to help get rid of it completely at all? Would it be a case of stretching exercise?
Thanks for your help!
Roy
Dear Roy,
If it is sciatica you may have pressure on the nerve from a problem with your spine such as compression of discs or degenerative changes in the vertebrae. It might be best to check with an orthopedist if resting your leg for a week or so doesn't help
Hope it goes well.
Dear Roy,
they now think stretching is the worst thing for the Sciatic nerve. It used to be recommended, but not any more. My personal experience confirms this! Ouch!
hope you feel better soon. Sue
Hi everyone and thanks for the advice...
To be honest I think the pain began about a week and a half ago. I am used to driving my car which is a Mercedes a class. It's very high up so is easy to get in and out of without any dis comfort. My car broke down and I was given a small Peugeot saloon car. It was a nightmare getting in and out of as I'm nearly 6 foot tall and big build. I really had to twist and turn to fit in......bingo...It was the blooming small car because everything was fine before! !!
