Pain update

In the last few weeks, two and a half years after my THR revision, I have experienced some new pains.

Basically in both my thighs, in the mornings and the evenings, when turning over in bed, and when sneezing or coughing if standing up. Sneezing or coughing when sitting was fine.

Bicycle riding was fine too, as it is in a sitting position.

Turns out my hips are fine ... it is a bulging disc in my spine pinching nerves.  Thank goodness my fantastic surgeon at RNOH Stanmore was able to put my mind at rest, so now I have to go to my osteopath to get this sorted out.

Lesson: if you get a new pain, get it checked out before you 'think yourself' into a state worrying about what it is.

Best wishes to everyone.

Graham

Hi really sorry too hear you are suffering pain but mad as it sounds really glad it's your back and not your hips, hope it can be sorted without surgery

Really pleased it’s not your hips Graham. Sound advice, get your pain checked out. Hope your osteopath can sort it out for you.

Wishing you all the best, Judith

Yes, odd as it sounds, I am glad it's my back/spine and not the hips.

My new surgeon is fantastic, so easy to talk to, so reassuring, not at all like most orthopedic surgeons.

He showed me the X-Rays, the old hip ceramic hasn't moved, and the 'good' one has a huge cushioning distance between the bones.

Graham

Hope the osteo manages to sort it. Back pain is not great but better than another hip revision!

Mike

You definitely have a good surgeon and he obviously understands that you need information about what's going on, some just don't get that, they think because we are mere mortals we don't understand what's going on and we do

So, the day after getting checked, did some work on my old car, not too strenuous, just putting some suspension parts and a wheel back on, closed the garage, turned around to get into the 'day' car, and CRUNCH ..... a very long crunch ... somewhere below my waist .... I am hoping it was my knee, but using a stick now for extra support.

You can NEVER let your guard down with this can you?

I cannot praise RNOH Stanmore enough, the whole team are fantastic.

I wish they had done it first, but I would not be accepted there for a 'straightforward' THR, it's just too far out of my area. I'm only with them now because of my predicament with this misplaced ceramic.

It's always the times when your preoccupied that bite you on the bum or hip, which ever comes first.

I hope it's just a hiccup, are you able to weight bear without pain

Yes, there's non any real pain (a bit, not bad though), but the intermittent noise is worrying. Sticks are helping reduce the strain, should be OK tomorrow I hope. A real unexpected bite on the rear!

Thanks

Graham

Well you did say you where doing your car, you must have a grease gun couldn't you bang a bit in between joint, if it works let me know and you could do mine LOL

Update - I think my hip has broken now - out shopping, pushing a trolley, no strain, and BANG, horrendous grinding and squeaking noises and pain .......... 999 won't send an ambulance, I have to go to A&E myself!

That's awful, so how are you getting there, are you sure it's not ripped tendon or dislocated

OMG

Oh, no. Hope they give you something IMMEDIATELY for the pain.

Graham

Hope you have been given some pain relief at the hospital and they've got to the bottom of this by now.

Mike

Rocketman,

What reason did they give for refusing an ambulance.

See my new thread for thr news from my hospital bed!

I did not qualify as i was not bleeding or vomiting.

Awful. In one way it was good that you weren't bleeding or vomiting but since you could hardly walk... Sometimes I love the NHS but sometimes I despair.

How are you doing now?

Mike
