Pain with deep breath or leaning back

Hi, I'm having abdominal pain tonight and wondering if it could be my gallbladder.

Here's the details:

* pain is in upper right abdomen, just below my bottom rib

* pain is squeezing/crampy and intermittent

* most reliable ways to bring it on seem to be leaning backward at the waist, or taking a very deep belly breath

* also throbs from time to time for no obvious cause

* flashes of pain last no more than a few seconds before fading

* this has been going on for about 3 hours and seems to be getting a little worse overall

Does that sound like gallbladder pain?  Any good ways to test if it's gb vs something else?

I have no history of gallbladder probs, although my brother has had stones.  But have had some GI issues lately - had about 2 months of mild nausea.  My doctor thought it might be stomach acid, and suggested taking omeprazole (Prilosec).  I've been taking that for just under a week, and it has helped w/ the nausea.  Before that I was taking tums for a spell.

Thanks much!

Hello,

I’ve just been confirmed as having gallstones and the pain I had was similar sounding.

I had agonising pain in my upper abdomen especially my right side, could not find any position comfortable and the pain spread to my back. Palpations and very dark urine were other symptoms.

Even now I’m not in an “attack” I still have a bad stitch on my right side.

If you are in unbearable pain I’d recommend ringing 111 or going to a&e - my stones were confirmed by blood test and ultrasound after going to a&e.

Wishing you all the best.

You need to get a confirmation at least by ultrasound which should see any stones. That is the essential first step. It's no good worrying about something you may not have but it is very well worth concentrating & seeing if the doctor knows all there is to know about getting rid of gall stones and I do not mean taking the gall bladder out because that in my view is a last resort situation.
