Pain with Fibro

Hello:  I'm not new to the forums, however, I am kind of new to the fibromyalgia forum...I'm Carole, and I have sciolious, spinal stenosis, and now, the doctor tells me I also have fibro....last night I had a terrible muscle pain in my neck and it seemed to hurt all over...I am used to spinal pain, but the neck pain and the tenderness in my whole body kept me awake almost all night...It hurt so bad just to turn over in bed.  Is it possible to have fibro so badly that it keeps you awake and makes you miserable...I kind of shrugged it off when the doctor told me I have it because I have just about everything else, but this really hurts...thank you for any advice you can give me...BTW, I have Lyrica, but I took them for a few days and I gained five pounds of fluids...now, I can only take one once in a while....thank you!!

Hi carole28488,

Sorry you're not feeling so great right now. If Lyrica isn't working for you, you could try asking your doctor if you can try one of the other medications they prescribe for fibromyalgia. I find that sometimes when my pain is all over a nice hot bath helps to ease it. Heat in general is my go to for pain. I know a lot of people with fibromyalgia also use tens machines to ease their pains. Acupuncture has also been recommended to me if you want to give that a try. I found Reiki good for helping me relax as well.

Hope this helps,

Leimodnunewra

Thank you for your help, Leim.. I will try to find out what else is out there to help with pain. I appreciate your kindness!!

Hi Carlos my name is Rochelle I have RA , Fibromyalgia & PTSD  I just started taking Lyrics but the answer to your questions yes Fibro can keep you up all night I have to sleep with a pillow to keep my knees from hurting chronic pain chronic fatigue sometimes it hurt to have clothes on yet Jehovah God truly keeps me & strengthens me..

ask your Dr cymbalta I use to take it for Fibro it helped I like it until insurance company no longer wanted to pay for it...

Hi Carol. Your symptoms sound very similar to mine, though you dont give a time scale.

For me, i recently discovered that small cups of hot coconut milk works better than nsaid's, ibuprphen etc. for joint and muscle pain. It must be hot, cold doesn't seem to work for some reason. Wild Oregano Oil (80% carvacrol) taken with water twice a day seems to work well also, It's said to be an anti everything treatment and I am having amazing results with it. If I feel the onset of joint or muscle pain my first option now is the coconut. I haven't taken nsaid's for weeks now, where previously I was taking the maximum amount everyday for weeks at a time.

Hope this helps.

I am taking Lyrica myself, have to keep upping it though so I will suggest the Cymbalta to my doctor smile

No problem, just let me know if there is anything else I can help with smile

Hi Carol. I should mention to be carefull about taking remedies along-side other prescription drugs.  Wild oregano oil would apear to be a harmless food stuff, but It does seem to be quite powerfull in its effects.

All the best

Hi all.

I struggle  most nights with  sleep  and I  have  forced myself  to get up early  and  stay awake  late but still  I can't  get a good  night's  sleep.

I am  told that keeping  as warm  as possible  helps but I get to hot in bed and that keeps  me  awake anyway.

It's hard to find what works for  you  but keeping  an eye  on  this  site  just might get your  answer

I hope  you  find  your  solution, best wishes to you

I've been on Lyrics for 3 weeks when you first started the lyrics did you experience headaches it's across my forehead frontal lobe also hot bath just sit in hot water it helps with the stiffness & calms your body to at least be able to function...

Oh yes my Dr prescribed me voltaren gel you put on knees ankles shoulder when u do the gel has the heat affect I like it been using it about a week ..

I was having headaches before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my doctor put me on Amitriptyline to help with the headaches and to help me sleep. Lyrica doesn't give me headaches, it just makes me feel kind of loopy while I am getting used to my new dose. I tried a similar kind of heat gel called Deep Heat and found that its effects only lasted about 15 minutes. Does voltaren gel work better?

Voltaren is like Advil in a gel form. Very strong alcohol smell too. It does help if you have inflammation, but doesn't help with muscles.

Thank you all for your kind suggestions...I only wish I could take Lyrica every day because it really helps with the pain, but it does a number on my kidneys...I take wild oil of Oregano every day and that helps, too.  I will stay on here, and thank God I have informative friends like all of you to help me out.

Oh OK prayers for you ....

Hello Carole,

Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. My view is that sometimes doctors need to be more informed about this condition. Throwing truckloads of drugs at this does not seem to be the answer. My doctor has/will only prescribe amitriptylene - this has helped with sleep and a little bit with pain. P'raps you could try this. many of the drugs prescibed have awful side effects. I wish you luck

Take care, Anne

Hi Carole, like you I had problems staying a sleep with fibro, I would wake up so stiff an so sore to turn over, I take amitriptilyn a few hours before bed and it helps as a muscle relaxant and I now sleep through, I also take gabapentin, and co codamol or if really bad tramadol, I think the gabapentin helped with the restless legs and itchy crawly skin that used to stop me from actually getting to sleep too. If I were you I would discuss possible options with you gp, as what works for one does not always work for another, but hopefully you have some ideas you can discuss with ur gp now.

Sometimes the side effects of these med's out way the good that they can do, so trial and error really. Hope you start to sleep better soon Hun, take care and let us know how you get on! Big hugs xx

Thank you so much, Angel...I have started taking a tramadol before I go to bed...I also take Xanax for anxiety...that really helps, too...Hugs.

Sleep. Used to be AWFUL. I use a melarinin oral spray & drink chamomile tea (bought a pound of chamomile flowers in bulk online for ten bucks, SO much stronger than tea bags) before bed. Knocks me the heck out!
