Hello pre hippie sooty you are in pain and apart from the pills not a lot else to offer. I burned lavender oil to relax listened to Paul McKenna tracks both harmless but relaxing so relieved the tension in muscles. Walked daily. Now post o and doing the same but minus the pills
Pretty much like you Linzh. I had gone though all the cortisone shots in the hip I was allowed ( only 4 per year) celebrex, ibuprofen, finally about 3 months prior to my surgery my Doc prescribed Tramadol, which helped. I could not believe I was saying "I can't wait to have surgery" but that was exactly how I felt. Now finally I have my new hip and NO hip pain whatsoever. Yes I have a stiff thigh and my muscles get sore from exercise and walking but that is nothing compared to the suffering we go through prior to surgery. I so hope you get your procedure soon and end the nightmare
I was in a lot of pain too just before my op, felt as though I couldn't stand it a minute longer, then I got the date for my pre-op and date of op at the same time and thought, thank goodness, I can manage until then. I was taking paracetamol and Ibruprofen but they only helped to dull the pain. I was given crutches at my first consultation, so these did help a bit with the walking and I did try to keep mobile to strengthen my leg muscles and I was also given a booklet as well with some exercises in it especially for that purpose, which I tried to do as much as I could but sometimes it was too painful. So there you are, I think its a matter of doing what you can, keeping your strength up and gritting your teeth and trying to stay cheerful and positive. There is light at the end, depends how long you have to wait for it. You could make enquiries either with your GP or the hospital to see how much longer you will have to wait. Hope you hear soon.
Hi welcome to the wonderful world of hippies! I took co codamol and I found that heat helped! Good luck ! But make sure you have plenty of help at home! Regards Amanda
sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I am in exactly the same boat. I went to my gp in tears and told her I could not cope any longer and was prescribed tramadol and paracetamol (taken together) but like Richard they spaced me out too much to have a normal life. Back to the gp again and I now take 2 tramadol and 2 paracetamol when I go to bed. If I wake in the night, which I usually do and it's more then 4 hours later I take another 1 tramadol and 2 paracetamol. In the morning, when it's at least 4 hours after the last tramadol, I take 2 co-dydramol and another two at lunch time, 4-6 hours later. GPs don't like you doing this because they think you're too stupid to understand that you can't take the tramadol and co-dydramol at the same time or that because co-dydramol contains paracetamol you can't take co-dydramol and paracetamol together, but if you can convince your gp that you understand this, I find it works well for me without leaving me too spaced out. It's also important to take whatever you take regularly even if the pain is not too bad. It's easier to prevent pain than cure it. Best of luck - let us know how you get on.
I took naproxen ( and omeprazole to protect stomach lining) and it made me feel sluggish.
I did see an osteopath who helped me with cranial massage and some traditional massage. She also strapped me up with something called Rock Tape which did help.
I had also had a hip block which resulted me being temporarily pain free.
I go back to I have no idea how I coped....I was also working and took no time off. Think I was the grumpiest person in the whole world!
I take 500mg Naproxen twice a day and 2 x 1000mg co-cocodamol twice a day but just about to up it to 3 times a day. However, I do have light at the end of what has been a long dark tunnel, I have my RTHR on Tuesday, hip hip hooray (pun intended)
I hope you don't have to wait too long for a date.
Hi Linzh I was in so much pain needing both hips doing so I really pested my Dr told him pain unbareable etc which it is so he put me on morpthine patch's I started on 5 then 10 but now on 20 mls even though iam one hip done I must say that I do have bac problems so I already on naproxen, dithydrocodeine tramadol excus spellings, there was a eariler post in about another substitue to morphine which they said was better. mind oral morphine is best but don't think you will get that, its worth a try go see your Dr again good luck Ron
Hi, feel for you as awefull days for you. I had very rough time and painkillers of any kind worked for me. My only pain relief was during the day kept stretching the hip and muscles but only worked for minute or two. At home more manageable by keeping hip as warm as possible with hot water bottle on hip and groin. That did help I found. Now had op....just stiffness. Thoughts with you and better days ahead for you.
Hi Linzi .... we all know your pain, girl ---- and like most of the hippies here on the forum, I don't really remember how I coped with it - a lot of silent weeping on the couch - I am 5 weeks post op now and even though you'll find a lot of post-op struggle-stories, one thing is for sure: THAT pain will be gone by the time you wake up from surgery !!!!! that is a promise ... I was prescribed diclofenac, Naxopren and something else (not at the same time) - I thought it didn't relieve any pain, until I stopped taking them ....
I hope your surgery date will be soon - hang in there !!! BIG HUG and keep coming back to us ....
I know the feeling, I go for my first op 13th may and it can't come soon enough, I take paracetamol , narproxen, codeine, morphine patches on 24hrs a day and amitriptyline on a night to try n help me sleep ( this doesn't really help but Dr says it will be helping with the inflammation , if not he pain! ) it's a struggle to do day to day things , I can't put my own socks on π
I think I have just gotten used to the fact that I am in constant pain now , I don't have good days any more so this is the norm, I would see your Dr there are different meds that could help short term until u get surgery, hope you get some ease soon x
thank you! i felt silly posting this thread, as i know all post op hippies and pre op have either gone or going through the same pain! But at least we are all in the same boat!
