Painful Haemorrhoids

Hi

Just looking for some experiences and advice - I have a really painful external haemorrhoid. At least I think that’s what it is. I’ve got a history of haemorrhoids and anal fissures etc, and have had a lot of issues recently with constipation which I’m trying to sort, but it’s been pretty bad. Struggling to go. Painful movements. Quite a bit of bleeding etc etc.

I’ve now developed a large lump just outside by anus and it is really painful. It’s been there around a week, I can’t really tell if it’s getting better or worse, or what’s going on with the size, I’m not sure if it’s a bit bigger, but it’s hard to tell. It’s mostly soft, but I can feel a lump inside it which I assume is probably the Haemorrhoid.

I tried anusol, didn’t help, I’m now on to anusol with hydrocortisone, which I’ve been using for a few days and I’m not sure it’s doing much. I’m trying to use ice packs, but it’s really difficult getting them in the right place!! I can’t do shitz baths (or whatever they’re called) because I don’t have a bath. I’m taking fairly regular pain killers at the moment to take the edge off.

Does anyone have any other hints or tips on what I can do to try and help it heal and help the pain? I’ve read they can take a few weeks to resolve, so I’m hoping it just needs time, but honestly it’s horrible. Literally a pain in the arse and just wearing me down.

Obviously I know I need to sort the underlying issue out, and trust me I’m working on that, I’m just looking for short term symptom relief!

Your focus on short term fixes, with respect, is wrong. Undiagnosed and untreated, the pain will progress and will affect your daily activities more than now. I suggest you visit a collorectal surgeon, as I did with hemorrhoids and the problem was solved quite quickly. It happened long ago and I can’t recall what the treatment was, but in the 20 years since, I have not had a problem.
