painful joints

Hi all,ive had joint pain which consists of a dull achey warning before the onset of full blown swelling, redness, heat and not being able to move the part effected as real painful and seems real heavy,my rhemy consultant had me sent for bloods which are coming back negative and hes really not doing much else for me atm,i also have chrones which doesnt help,i am on gabapentin, folic acid, any advice as to getting what type of the disease am at my wits end wit the pain,ty in advance

Am also getting numb/tingling hands.

Could this be a reaction to something toxic?  I had a similar experience when I was younger.  It lasted 8 weeks and then went away.  I was being tested for RA, Lupus, SLE, ALS, MS and happily tested negative for everything.  The doctors were all mystified.   Finally I saw a naturopath who figured out I was exposed to a toxic pesticide. This exposure apparently mimicked arthritic joint symptoms but the tests always came back negative.  She gave me a detoxifying prescription and changed my diet significantly and within 5 days I was better.  I have not had a recurrance in 10 years.

Hi rose,im not sure if it could be,my diet is pretty gd as it has to be because of the chrones disease,my consultant hasnt really dun many tests i feel he hasnt time for me,ive since phoned his secretary to be asked to be seen asap to get this sorted.

If you dont get anywhere I suggest you ask your doctor to be reffered to someone else.I have these symptons and my rheumatoid arthritus is severe.I also take pregabalin at 500mg daily which is similar drug.Ask for yours to be highered to see if it helps.I also rub ibuprofen gel on to ease pain.hope any of this has helped

There is such a thing as sero-negative RA, which means you have all the symptoms but the test results are normal. It's not that unusual. Estimated around 10% of all people with RA have sero-negative RA. I'm one of them.

Assuming you are sero-negative RA, if you treat your Crohn's Disease with a biologic [e.g., Humira, Enbrel] you might see a carryover in beneficial effects for the RA.

Be persistent with your rheumatologist. You are your own best advocate.
