Painful MRI

Hi, I'm 9 weeks post RTHR and I went for a scan on the left hip on Wednesday. I had the same procedure on my right with no problems.  However, while injecting the dye the doctor kept missing and catching a nerve, really painfully in the front of my thigh at the time.  Now my left hip which was quite painful prior to the procedure is considerably worse, I don't remember by right hip being worse. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Paula,

Sorry to hear that. Also can't speak to any experience, my MRI was done without dye. Surgeon said that from the x-ray it was visible enough to not need any additives in the MRI... Can wonder if that's a good thing.

Hope you feel better soon as your body clears out the dye though!

Hi

my surgeon said I didn't need dye but when I got the letter through it said it was to be done with dye.  Wish I had queried it now lol!

Hi Paula I have never herd of using an MRI to diagnose hips normally an XRay is used, I also have had several MRI's not for hips but never had any dye used, I had dye used when before MRI's I had a milagram they used dye then and boy did that proceedure hurt so I'm afraid you have me stumped, I hope some one on this forum can help

Best Wishes

Ron

Well, four years ago when they were looking for what turned out to be Hodgkin's lymphoma, they did use dye on me, didn't hurt me then as I had a drip set before, so they used that to get it in.

'Funny' thing is that the cure for that now is the reason I need new hips. Oh well...

My story went almost similar, the letter stated that I would need dye, but the technician doing the MRI had read the request, resulting in no dye MRI.

I didn't have to ask about it, she just told me that the letter was basically the wrong template they used...

The dye pain does subside fairly quickly though, justvtreat yourself a little until then

I didnt know I could have MRI after hip replacement
