Painless

I had a colonoscopy a few days ago and was absolutely dreading it having read some of the experiences other patients have mentioned on this site.

There is no escaping the fact that the whole laxative thing is not very pleasant at all, however, in my experience, i must say that the actual colonoscopy was totally pain free. So much so that i slept through the whole thing.

I would advise anyone who is reading these posts to go for the procedure with confidence and hopefully have as easy a time as i had.

As i was told beforehand there is more likelihood of people with poor experiences to highlight them on a site like this so i am trying to re-assure anybody who is apprehensive having read some of the more negative reviews.

I'm afraid you only think it was painless. The midazolam (probably) that you were injected with caused anterograde amnesia so you have no memory of what went on during the examination. The fact that you say you slept through it probably means that you were given a substantial dose. But as long as you are happy that's fine for you.

I am well aware that the lack of pain which I experienced was totally caused by the effects of the midazolam and the pethidine but surely that is the reason these are used. Just goes to show how effective they are.

I actually had to have another colonoscopy this week and felt absolutely nothing again.

If anyone is reading this before going for a colonoscopy please be positive as you could have as good an experience as I had. The drugs did what they were supposed to do for me.

Painless? You were lucky.
