I have been trying to follow Paleo since April as I have read quite a few positive comments from sufferers of UC. The diet is very clean avoiding carbs/ seeds/ dairy basically anything that your gut may find hard to digest.
I wanted to see if anyone else has tried to follow paleo and if so what are there thoughts? In my case I have noticed that i feel less bloated ( I do cheat at the weekend) and i have been going once a day. My stool is very soft and easy, I have not reduced my medication as yet though.
I use Paleo now but started on SCD first for about two years. Both have worked very well for me. My main triggers are Alcohol, sugar and starch so Paleo works well.
I will say that Paleo doesn't avoid carbs but limits them. Sweet potatoes are allowed for instance. However people are doing Paleo low carb which would avoid carbs. If you are doing that just make sure to up the fat so you avoid a crash. Your body can use either carbs or fat for fuel if you limit both you'll have an energy crash and feel pretty bad.
That is great, im happy to hear other people have a positive response to this.
I admit i have been cheating at the weekend but I am slightly worried about that as since I am not eating any carbs ( although sweet potatoes I do include in my diet) from Mon- Friday I do eat as much carbs as I feel like on Saturday & Sunday. It has been pointed to me that by doing this I may put on weight since my body will just store the carbs since I avoid them most days in the week.
I am thinking therefore of following Paleo but allowing 1 cheat meal at the weekend only ( Pizza esp :p) As it does give me something to look forward to also!
