Something crazy happened this morning which has made me jumpy today I had slept in and all a sudden I was sat up in bed I don't know if I jolted or what everything was so blurry I could only see the brightness and I mean bright white light from. My curtains I was gulping for air gasping but I could not get anything in this felt it lasted 5 minutes but it was prob anywhere from 20 seconds -1 minute I was gasping like a fish when they open there mouths I did not feel fear until I realised I could only see a bright white light and wasn't breathing but still "alive" of course I thought I was dieing or dead and seeing the "light" is it possible I was still asleep but half awake ? Very freaky situation and still major freaks out by it as my fears are not been able to breathe !
It maybe a mild form of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Steph. Your body has woken up before your autonomous nervous system has had time to catch up.
It is quite common and not at all serious, but it is still worth referring this matter to your GP.
i used to struggle when i fell asleep, i would be half asleep feel that jolting feeling like you described and i would ping awake! it went on for ages, literally until i was too tired to put up with it anymore and then it seemed to stop.
i know its hard but try to relax when you sleep tonight, you were probably just tense and on the edge of sleep like i used to be

Do you take you meds ( if you have any ) in the morning ? It maybe you need to alter the time slightly so you dont feel this.
I've had it a few times I've told my doctor who responded with a laugh and it may be a freaky sleep disorder his words to the exact when I went to hospital I told the doctor there what my doctor had said he laughed too 😐
Hey hun iv done that jolted awake ect when drifting but this was upon waking why it scared me ill try to relax tonight though I've been naughty had a couple of drinks havent had alcohol for months as was too scared but my anxiety has been better well better then it has been recently tonight

I guess then all most of your attacks are in the morning ?
Is the something that triggers it in the morning. maybe going to work, school or what ever it is you do during the day. ( sorry Im not sure how old you are ? )

No I can be drifting off to sleep and they happen sometimes even when I'm awake and alert it happens but lasts seconds I'm 22
I was getting cbt but I quit because my cbt worker thought it wasn't the right time in my life to be doing it
Also obstruction sleep apnea can kill you can't it
Also if anybody could help with tips to get to sleep doctor said no to sleeping tablets after I mentioned about breathing problems this was 3 months ago though .so will try again but in mean time I can not sleep it's 3.05am I'm exhausted and been in bed 4 hours now but I can't sleep incase I don't wake ?? Or I wake gasping
Reading can helpas can watch dull tv. But I find that staying lay down in bed doesnt help so I may sit on edge of bed. It doesnt always works but its a start. Also reduce tea, coffee and caffine drinks from around 6pm and drink water or hot chocalate
Im not sure if your GP will prescribe them but I am currently using Propananol 40 mg ( 3 times a day a s required ) but have had short dosage ( very short as this drug is addictive ) of Diazapam at the lost dose of 2mg.
You may or may not have any luck with your GP
