Hello All,
I am a mature woman that is turning 50 this year and currently have Panic disorder, Gerd, Hitial Hernia and going through the change of life. I have suffered with Gerd for several years now and have chest discomfort all the time. Recently since menopause showed up, my anxiety level has gotten three times worst due to hormonal changes, so now I have been put on paxil to relieve the symptoms. I currently experience heart palpitations that feels like my heart skips a beat and then speeds up fast before I can catch my breath. Most of the time it is happening even when I am not doing anything physical. I know hormones can cause a lot of problems for women, but does anyone experience this and how did you get relief, if any? I have only been taking the paxil about two weeks and see no change as of yet. Any help is appreciated.
Hi Loretta, My name is Louise and I'm 25.I have had palpitations for years now and they can go on all day. It feels like a flutter and I also have an irregular heart beat. It's very uncomfortable when it happens and this can cause panic and hencethe fast heart rate straight after. Rest assured though that although it doesn't feel normal, it is completely harmless to your body and anxiety is mostly to blame. I do notice that when I drink coffee or coke or anything which is high in caffeine, it sends palpitations through the roof so I do not drink these anymore. Please try and breathe through them and keep telling yourself that it's okay to have these. The more relaxed you become, the palpitations should ease a little if not completely.
Hi Loretta
I can't help directly with your issues.....but I can point you in the direction of some great advice!
For any help with GERD, look for the 'relux oesphagitis' forum on this site. I suffer from LPR/ silent relux, and the advice I've received has been invaluable!!!!
Also, look up 'menopause chit chat'. Another very helpful forum
Hope it helps x
Hi Loretta, Besides the paxil you might want to find a doctor who specializes in bioidentical hormone therapy. These are hormone creams that are specially compounded to address your hormone deficiencies. I started going through menopause early (38) and have been on hormone therapy for probably the last 5-6 years (I'm 47 now). I hate to bore you with long details but it sounds like you might be low in progesterone - it's a woman's natural feel good/almost sedative like hormone. Once I went on bioidentical hormone therapy my mood evened out, I had more energy, slept better, etc.
