panic attacks on Propranolol

Hi, does anyone else still have panic attacks even though you take Propranolol, I'm on 40mg x3 daily, on Monday i switch to 80mg up to twice daily, but I'm still having panic attacks (very mild) I've been on propranolol for 3 weeks now.

Hi Danielle!

You shouldn't still be getting any symptoms because Propranolol is designed to stop panic attacks from occurring. It slows the heart rate and relaxes blood vessels so your blood pressure is lowered. Therefore you should get any other symptoms of panic attacks either like hyperventilation, a tight chest etc. If you are getting this then go back to your doctor as the current dosage is not working or you may need a different tablet altogether

Hope I've helped!

You shouldn't get symptoms of a panic attack sorry!

Its not a lot of symptoms, its just a small rush of adrenalin, not a lot at all, just enough to give me that first initial shock then my heart flutters a little. I am starting the slow release 80mg tomorrow but if the symptoms don't improve i will go back to the doctors. Thanks guys.

The Inderal should have a very calming affect. Inderal is given for arrythmias, elevated blood pressure and used for years with high strung nervous people. It should not create more anxiety. I have been taking Inderal since 1969 when pregnant with my second child for arrythmias. Im 71 now. It manages my cardiac arrythmias and blood pressure quit well.

My granddaughter had panic attacks and therapy helped. I would opt to find out why you get the attacks. Medication isnt always the best answer.
